Oh. My. God. There are not enough words for this!!
Three things...
1.) The puppy was 6 weeks old. We all know what that says about the knowlege base of the breeder and the purchaser.
2.) The person who gave them the puppy said that the puppy couldn't have done this because he wasn't "chewy?" I'm sorry, but what puppy isn't chewy to some extent?
3.) The parent's slept through this?! Thank God this baby is being taken away from them. What a horrible introduction into the world for this baby.
Actually that is not the first time this has happened, sadly enough. I can't remember if it was a Pom or a Chihuahua puppy that chewed off a babies' fingers not too long ago. Unwatched children + dogs = disaster waiting to happen. Horrible.
That is awful. My first suspicious thought was, what drug/s were the parents on that they didn't hear the baby. My second was, what if they did something to the baby and are blaming the dog.
Whatever happened, I hope the puppy, who is just a baby himself, is given another chance -- in a good home this time.
I know it says the baby woke them up, but the puppy would have had to have been chewing for quite some time and you can't tell me that the baby wasn't crying during that! How could they not hear that?
But also, why were they SLEEPING while their puppy was out and in reach of their baby? I wouldn't leave a puppy alone with a baby even if I was AWAKE, let alone sleeping! Ugh, some people just don't get it.
These folks had no business having a child or a puppy. I guess the one silver lining is that we won't hear a year from now that a young pit bull killed a toddler.
I believe the person that says maybe the pup was trying to nurse and got to into the toes type of thing ,when puppies chew on your fingers if you let them do it long enough they will continue and go into a deep chewing (if you know what Imean) little babies toes are soft and tiny.I can see those dumb parents being on a substance not hearing the baby and ignoring the cries.Who lets a baby sleep on the floor(mattress was on the floor) Comon' even if you are poor there is help out there for new parent that cannot buy supplies for their new baby.A crib would have been no problem for them to obtain. Young and irresponsible comes to mind, and it re-affirms a belief of mine and many others that puppies should not leave their mothers until later, 6 weeks is too young! Their are two victims a baby and a puppy. That puppy was not taking care of obviously the baby was not so I'm sure that puppy was not either.
Eva, you always have these horribles stories!!!
I know it's good that they're told but ohhh it makes me mad...
I think there's more to this story...the story said that the couple was being charged with child desertion (as well as criminal negligence). If they were right next to the baby, how is it desertion? Unless the parents were on drugs and they're arguing that that a form of desertion (it is, IMO).
