Hello Leerburg people! I am very glad to have come across this site and especially the forum. My name is Lindsey and I live in Las Vegas with Arf, my giant schnauzer. Today is his fourth birthday. I was fifteen when I got him and I knew almost nothing about dogs- I'm actually suprised, now, that anyone would give a dog like this to someone so young and inexperienced. As a result, he is a spoiled brat but I am lucky in that he's otherwise so sweet. He's like a brother to my five year old sister; always stealing her stuff but also herding her to her room and cuddling with her when she gets into trouble. His only issue has been with strange humans (he loves dogs) but we worked with a behaviorist for a few months last year and he will now allow visitors into the house so long as he stays on a leash and does obedience an adjacent room util he calms down enough to join in the festivities. He really is turning into an amazing dog and I just couldn't resist sharing with you how proud I am of him. I do wish that I could have gotten him into Schutzhund, though!
Arf and I at Level Canyon last month
Arf in the Columbia River last April- we were living in Oregon at the time
I've always enjoyed dogs that are named simple, funny cliche names like Rex, Spot, Rover. My favorite name though was a sweet, sweet German Shepherd named Steve!
Never heard of the name "Arf" but it does make me smirk!!
Hi Lindsey,
I'm in Las Vegas too!
If you ever want to come to our Schutzhund Club, you can watch the training we do and see how we start dogs , we have some pups in the group too . PM me and I will give you directions.
You're welcome to bring your dog too.
Welcome to Leerburg!
Amber, my job for today has actually been to rake all of that fluff out. I haven't done it since he was a year old and I stopped because he developed some sores on his sides. But now that he's a tad more plump, I thought I'd give it another try. I raked for three hours today and only completed one side! I'm ashamed of myself for letting him go so long, but he looks like an entirely different dog- well, half of him anyway.
I want a dog named Steve!
Angelique, I had no idea there was a Schutzhund club in Las Vegas. I would love to come watch!
Lindsey, when my Corgi started to shed his undercoat I decided to give him a good brushing. It ended up looking like a large rabbit had exploded after all was said and done. And then lo and behold, there was still more to brush out.
So far I don't have to worry about my German Shepherd pup. He has that really weird feeling puppy coat...I knew it felt familiar but I couldn't place it until my dad came up with it tonight... he feels exactly like Polar Fleece!
