The book is much better, IMO: "Cesar's Way."
Search under Cesar Millan in quotes and you will find at least four detailed threads, as Will points out.
After only a year and a half here, I now understand 100% the impatience that sometimes comes through when someone replies "Search and you will find." (Not from Will, of course.... :grin It's not that people are not willing to help and answer in detail...... it's just that when there are pages and pages and pages of recently-posted answers to the very same question, then the person asking will miss a lot by ignoring all that and just relying on a new thread.
MHO is that the Leerburg videos are more substantive. I am a long-time fan of Cesar's, though, since his very early seminars, and I think that his book is a great addition to your bookshelf. He is a big proponent of pack structure and leadership, but not a sit-stay-down-come trainer. I think his show and book are good additions to the excellent Leerburg videos, and I make use of all three.
Sorry for not searching, I actually haven't taken a whole lot of time to figure out how this forum works. I have asked some questions like, how do I edit and how do I quote but never got any answers. Time is a factor and it just seemed easier to ask a question rather than to take the time to learn navigation around the site. Yes, that is laziness, I admit. Sorry. I will try and be more diligent in my searching the site rather than discussing things with the forum first.
I read Ceasars' Way and enjoyed the book very much. I found that he explains pack structure very well and it is a good book to have in your library. I was disapointed in that he was very stingy when it came to actually helping people by teaching them how to fix your basic behavioural problems. He may have addressed them in his later book, I don't know. For informational purposes regarding pack structure he did himself proud. For guys like me who just have to know how to fix existing problems (not just prevent them) I was left a little empty. JMO
Howard,
I think in his show he does show how to fix excisting problems.
I actually love to hear him tell some people that dogs are not human, or that kids are more important then the dog, I mean I can't believe someone(ceasar) has to tell them that.I don't want to be harsh but some people are simply pathetic when it comes to their dogs, and I can't believe that they function normally in our society!
Sorry ,not in a good mood today
remember that he isn't "training" dogs, but rehabilitating them. if you are getting the video thinking you'll learn how to train for basic obedience, you will be disappointed.
having said that, i bought the book and rented the video (netflix has it), and i highly recommend both. his methods have strongly influenced the way i work with my dog, for the better.
