HI,
I am posting this on behalf of a friend.
My friend recently moved into a home. The neighbors are well...
The have two Rottweiler The dogs CHEWED through the fence and went into my friends yard. They also chewed up all of her patio furniture.
She has tried to address the issue with the neighbor. They insist that it was her dog. (She has a cocker spaniel that is not allowed outside without supervision.) She has called the authorities. (I don't know if she called the police or animal control.) They refuse to do anything about it. I believe they have had other complaints about these dogs.
What do you guys recommend she do? I hate to say it, but someone is giong to get seriously hurt if those dogs are not taken away from those people.

I would photograph the hole in the fence (and I would sure as heck fix my side) and quietly photograph the dogs running loose. I'd have these photos ready while I watched to see what the neighbors do next, and whether or not they take heed of the complaint and start containing their dogs. JMO.
Then I'd decide whether a complaint needed to be filed about the dogs running loose, and I would have my photos ready.

Here in vegas, if I catch a loose, lost dog in my yard regardless what it's doing, licking my furniture or eating it I am allowed to keep it until and call ASPCA to come pick it up and therefore the owners of the dog has to pay a fine when they come to get it from the ASPCA.Why can't she put the dogs in her garage and call ASPCA and have them remove the dogs if the neighbors won't do any thing about it.I think after a while of having to retrieve their dogs from shelters they might change their mind and make sure their dog does'nt get out again.I also think if she was to say that these dogs are making threats to her and her family , any agencies would take action. What's the real deal?

I am with Connie and Angelique, can you try and take photos of the dogs actually in her yard and then present to the neighbors what the issues are? Then there is proof and no argument can be made by the neighbors.
Here in my area we do not have animal control so we use our own methods of animal control. We have to because the dogs at large here run in packs of three or more and are usually mangy, sickly, aggressive dogs that have gone a bit feral having to fend for themselves.

Hi,
The dogs are actually Pit Bulls, not Rottweilers. Please keep the great advice coming.

Hi,
She actually has pictures of the fence and furniture.
Taking pictures of the dogs running amuck is a great idea.

Hi,
What I gather, (from everything I have been told) is that these dogs are not trained. Realistically, do you think any RESPONSIBLE dog owner would allow their dogs to run wild?
I personally would not chance a bite by trying to corral two wild dogs.
I advised her to buy some mace, just in case they caught her by surprise.

One more thing, try and find out what the leash laws are in your area....
If you have them then the animal control should have to do something.

Carolyn,
If you look under Ed's Questions & Answers Aggressive Dogs on the main Leerburg site and scroll down a bit you'll find his thoughts on how to go about deal with neighbors who refuse to deal with their dogs.

What about her family safety??Kids and wild pitbulls don't go together, can't even cops come out and do something about this(to the neighbors that is)
We put people in jail for neglect when their PIT bites or kill their own child but we should let the neighbors wild pits come in and out of other yards with no consiquenses??? Crazy town she lives in?
My king charles was loose in our street once,my 2 year old had left the door open and at the time our king would take off so fast that if you weren't looking you'd miss him go by.Long story short, we got a letter from our CCNR that our dog was running loose and could be a danger to our community.More like the community was a danger to him. That was a good laugh for me & my husband when we got the letter,we actually thought it was a joke. But I can't imagine if we had the pitbulls in question! I probably would be talking with you guys through a jailcell..
