All of my dogs except my current GSD pup have done exactly that. The GSD pup will only go in designated areas...wish I could take credit for it but apparently he's decided that only certain places are "worthy" and chain pet marts aren't one of them!!

I do not take my boys into these places for exactly that reason. TOO many smells and "good" places to mark. My female is okay, but she is a high drive Mal, so when "Fluffy gets away from mommy" and comes tearing down our aisle with mommy running wildy behind them hollering there name, things can get a bit exciting.
So most of the time she stays in the rig.

I don't take my dog to pet stores either. I find it too distracting and I'm always on edge trying to keep Kobi from sniffing and drooling all over the merchandise. He's like a kid in a candy store! By the time I leave, I am exhausted from redirecting and repeating 'leave it'.
One of my pet peeves is owners who bring their brand new, unvaccinated puppies to these stores. They have no clue that their pups can pick up some really nasty diseases.
Maybe the petsmart you go to gets more dog traffic...
I actually like to go in and work on my dogs control a little.
Great distraction, plus they get to pick their kong.
We almost left once with my youngest male leaving with a kong in his mouth that he must have found on the floor.I had to go back and pay for it, and he still held the kong the whole time, my precious baby....
my husband calls him the shoplifter...

People, kids, shopping carts, dogs, urinating, rabbits, puppies, treats all in close quarters...I could never adequately handle more than one dog at a time in this environment.
Does "dogs control" signify the plural or do you mean "dog's control" as in the singular?? If you post back telling me plural, I will be very, very impressed with your level of skill sister !
I remember that story. Was that thread started by you, Mike?
Well, that makes me wonder...sometimes I put food in my dog's bowl and he walks away from it with not even a backward glance. He does it often enough that I wonder if there's something a little off with the food - serious dose of salmonella for instance.
Food has never been his raison d'etre but heck, the least he could do is eat a bite or two and then tell me he doesn't like my cooking ! Yeesh!
