OK I have a question for you guys , for an investment I have been offered(it's been going on for the past 2 years.
Would you guys use a health club where you could take your pet to also get exercise.Treadmills and pools.
You could be on the bike or a treadmill while your pet is next to you on his treadmill, the pools are the ones that have a current going through they are called Aquatic therapy pools. It would not be a olympic size pool for everyone to share. The Auquatic therapy pool is for one person and a dog.Great to build endurance for you and your pet. You can come as you want as many times a week , you can reserve your spot for the pools( and you don't have to swim with your dog if you choose not to) but it would be an open membership to where you can go as many times as you want. So what do you guys think , would it be a success , would petsand their handlers benefit from it or not?

when the weather is bad out, i go to the gym instead of for a hike, and my dog pays the price. you bet i'd love it if my health club let me bring my dog to use the treadmills (he doesn't swim, but i'm sure those that do would love that option).
you would have to set it up though so that you don't have a dog park kind of situation where fights can break out. that would be important.

The plan that I saw ,the exercise machines are far apart in double(dog and handlers)and have clear binders(very cool and hip looking)between every 2.Open 24 hours (is also the plan)
Also thier are limits to how many dogs in the building would be allowed. And also some of the hours on a specific day is donated to any law enforcemnt k9 for therapy.I hope it goes through, but it is still under research...

This is funny, I was just thinking how great it would be if I could take my dog to the gym with me! I would definitely sign up.

I would love to have something like that! I would have to wonder about liability though, especially considering some dipsy aggressive dog owners I've met. Not to mention just basic stupidity. Theoretically you shouldn't be held responsible for that but if McDonald's can be sued over hot coffee...

By the way ,I meant dividers not binders!(late last night)
The coorporation that is thinking of this is huge, so the pet club would be very nice and big in size.As far as the irresponsible owners their are irresponsible people everywhere, careless drivers , ect....You can't stop an idea or making it happen for those reasons, what about the responsibles ones should they suffer for the others? When the idea was brought up to me I thought about all kinds of stuff that were negative about it but after reading the format of the plan in details, it was too good to pass and you know their are so many benefits!
The regulations are workable too, like everyone that joins, has a picture taken with each pet they choose to bring so that when they sign up to come in(like health club for people) their full record comes up on the computer, with every info needed , shot records ,any incident that happend in the club ect...,to keep a history of each individual and the pet they bring in(it's more detailed than that but too long to explain)but you get the idea.
Also the price of the membership will keep certain loosers out of it...A vet office is inside the building, starbucks close by(they are still trying to figure out how that is going to workout rather in the same building or next to. The first one that will open is amazing with all kinds of great amenities,
pet lovers will absolutely be amazed.I was when I saw it on paper(drawings)Looked like a pet city.I would love more input on this , ideas are great too. Please forgive my spelling I have been too used to spelling check , now I'm hopeless without it.

How would the locker room situation work? In the various health clubs I have been to, the locker rooms get crowded enough without canine companions. How about the showers? Doggie shampoo next to the people shampoo? I envision some serious handler/dog bonding going on!

Well you are right about that, but the way they would have it , before you would go into the locker room to shower, you would be puting your pet in a crate, they'll have a area that has crates of all sizes, kind of like places that have coat counter where you hand them your coat and they give you a ticket that matches you coat # ect.., well kind of the same concept, it's an area where a person is in charge to watch the crate area, you put your dog in a crate the person in charge hands you a ticket and then you go shower do what you got to do,go back hand your ticket and get your dog, plus they also have a system that on a computer you have a picture of handler and dog so that even when you hand your ticket , you have to match their records. No pets will be allowed in the locker area (from what I have read), and I am sure most people unless they really have to use it , won't care. The company does not want to make it a social club (if they can) but more of a facility for people who are serious about getting and keeping their pets healthy.
So many dogs really need physical therapy and exercises.I like the outdoors but when I can't get to it, it would be nice to have that option. They have plans for obedience agility rooms, alot more than what I can say but I think in some cases we would benefit and our pets would get what they need..

I think the idea is definetly worth looking at. I would join but it would also have to depend if it is affordable.
