There are plenty of posts on this web board that you might want to read. Just do a search on the topic. You might need to change his diet also. Switching to a raw diet would probably help, just make sure you read up on how and what to feed. Again, theres plenty of information here if you search for it. Ed also has some sample raw diets that might help you. Good luck.
if ya google 'abady dog food' you'll get a good list of links to foods. Not sure where I read about abady, but it made a statement that stuck, if I may paraphrase, "there is not a tooth in a dog's head meant to grind grain."
also consider titres over annual boosters, map syptoms against innoculations in time and see if there's a coincidence shortly thereafter. we know how to turn the immune system on, turnin it off
is not as easy as steroid usage would suggest...
at least that's my theory. scary stuff. lost a 4
yr old to thrombocytopenia, after years of battling hot spots. Know a nieghbor's Samoyed with Addison's, either I'm just more aware or there are more immune mediated conditions going on
than before, and I suspect we might be our own worst enemies not questioning the vet industry.
and in Fla, consider spraying the yard, there's a
garlic spray out there which amazed me with mosquito control last summer...yard smells like pizza for ahwile, but the pets are safe.
Okay, I was at dunkin donuts today and I decided to buy Bruno a plain munchkin. After, giving it to him I was like "damnit, that probably has corn syrup in it!." Then it dawned on me, about a month after I moved to Florida my mother bought the dog a huge box of milk bones, and hes been getting about about 2-3 large milk bones daily. After checking the ingredients, wheat is the 1st and 3rd ingredient. I can't believe I overlooked this for so long. I was actually rewarding him with them for taking his pills. Looking it back on it, when he was a puppy i bought some really small flavored milf bones for training purposes and he was itchy then. Then when he developed a strong prey drive, I trained obedience completely in prey. And he's been fine until now. I feel so stupid right now! Especially after spending over $500 at the vet.
Jack,
Hope the corn syrup issue solves your dogs itchy skin problem.
Re fleas in Fla: I live in NE Fla and have had the yard sprayed twice at the beginning of the season(Mar & Apr), as well as treating the carpets since our dogs are all inside pets. We also only give them once dosage of Frontline(after a while it made their fur too greasy and they started to get a wet dog smell). After that, we have never had a problem with fleas. Followed that routine at my last house and were fine for 9 years. Just moved to a new house 18mths ago and have not had any fleas problems there either.
Watch for sand mites also if your dog spends a lot of time outside and likes to dig. Had one that dug down to the cool dirt during the hot summer days and got mites into her ears, then into sinus cavities and she eventually had to be put down. Long time ago, before we knew the serious problems Fla sand mites could cause....
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge...
