Is there anyone that uses a bark collar on patrol? I have a 21/2 year old male Mal. He is extremely cruiser aggressive. That is he barks and get aggressive towards anyone or anything near the cruiser. Even when we drive by a parked car he goes nuts forget ATM's and Drive thru's...He thinks they are alive. I think I am going deaf due to his barking. I tried a leash through the cage to his pinch collar only to have him chew through the leash while on a stop or when I run into the barracks for reports. My only concern is if we have to bail out quickly for a situation and I want him barking. He is driving me nuts?? Any ideas???

David, I can only tell you what I did with a female I had, I do Schutzhund and barking is important but the barking she used to do in the car was too much for me.I would put her barking collar on at home cause she would bark as soon as she would go outside, she got zapped a few times and learned real quick that the barking collar meant don't bark, after a while I would put the collar on her but not turn it"on" on the way to the field ,she had fear of getting sapped so she would not bark the whole way driving there but as soon as she would see the guys on the field she would bark with the collar on and didn't get zapped for it since it wasn't on..But at least it for the most part it calmed her down a bit driving there, it was only when she saw guys with the sleeve that she would forget about having the collar on , she got collar oriented, which helped me to focus when I was driving with her in the car. and order my starbucks with out screaming for my coffee.

I am glad to say that I no longer have that female and the dogs I have now are much better to hav ein the car.

I'd prefer a remote collar over a bark collar. You control the stim, not the dog's barking. Then teach him the appropriate command to shut up.

My dog would stop barking on command but when it came to the training field I initially covered the car windows with a movers blanket. The bark collar stopped the barking when I got tired of "dressing" the car.. Our agency wont allow us to use an e-collar so you make do with what you have.

Angelique are you talking about the e-collar? The concern about the e-collar I have is not being able to correct when I am not around. Cruiser sitting outside the barracks and other Troopers coming and going and K-9 going nuts, or do you think he can learn that when I am in the cruiser and able to give command that he has to shut up.

Well with my male he knows when he has the e-collar on and rather I have it "on" or "off" he won't try to bark,works the same for a barking collar( I don't use on my male) I think once you are leaving your cruiser and he has his e-collar on wait away a bit see if he starts to bark at anyhting and give him a zap to remind him not to bark.My male is soo collar oriented that most of the time I do not have to turn it on, and worry about me not catching him barking.I can't say that a command not to bark has worked for me cause when he is in drive ,forget it, he could care less what I say about his barking.

When using the e-collar in a vehicle would you just hit him at the bark with no command(like bark collar)so he does not associate the stim with you or is command and then zap.
