Poor baby, my God........someone should tie up the owner and forget HIM in the backyard. Jerk moron.
There's just no good deterrent and punishment meted out for animal abuse. "Third-degree felony charge of animal cruelty" ??? Why not FIRST degree?? I just don't understand our laws.

It's because they need to leave room for someone who assaults an animal (or cooks them in an oven, as the case may be...) and I agree with you it's a sad world when there are TWO LEVELS of abuse above forgetting your pet in the back yard and allowing him to starve.
For reference, if it's the same as it is with people, then:
First Degree = Premeditated
Second Degree = Basically "heat of the moment"
Third Degree = Negligence, basically a catch-all for non-premeditation or crime of passion
Degrees actually have nothing to do with the severity of a crime. In this case, I suppose they didn't feel they had enough to prosecute him with a premeditated abuse of the poor dog.
Maybe it's a good thing I'm engaged to a less than enthusiastic dog owner...if not, I'd be adopting each and every dog in each and every one of these heartbreaking stories.
This just shows just how amazing dogs(animals in generall) are. People beat them , abuse them in every which way, starve them and they still love humans. We should be ashamed of ourselves. What is wrong with the so called intelligent life form?
I'm glad that the dog is doing great. And the last part of the article says that Pilgrim is very docile and friendly, this is the only desciption I have for the pitbulls I've met. I would adopt him in a heartbeat if I had a place out of town(I've always wanted a pit or staffie).
On another note. Has anyone seen the commercial, I think it involves purina and animal shelters. "I know I'm a good dog, I just want to go home" that's part of the ocmmercial. I almost cry everytime I see it. It's very sad. But I know that not every dog can be saved when it goes to a shelter. But the ones that do get to go to a new home, get a second chance at life that they deserve.
Please don't compare that convict to some others, that dog owner was a scum bag , whom we should starve for days while he sits in a cell the way he did his dog.Too bad we couldn't just tie his ass to a tree and eat everyday right in front of him , see how it feels..
Sorry about the detail but I had to do it..
Keleah,I saw that commercial , it is so sad, I hope pedigree did not use that for their own advertisement, but again what would be the point for them...I sure hope they donate as much as they say.
