I'm assuming tht we all have watched the dog wisperer (Cezar) and most of us know his move? That Shhhh/snap finger/ point move tht he does on his show??
He always seems to be doing rehab on Dominant type dogs (or dogs that have no obedience training at all??) Well he comes in the room with the dog, un-introduced and just takes them over like he is the new owner??
Would these techniques work on a dog that has been trained as a protection dog?? Doesn't seem to be likely?
Interesting show though???

Dog psychology is dog psychology. I think that yes, his techniques would work the same with a PPD. Depending on the PPD, however, he may have to take safety measures such as a muzzle. No tennis racket here!
Connie is right though, a properly trained PPD should not exhibit behavioral problems and such. Any behavioral issues should have been addressed long before the dog reached a PPD status.

Slightly off topic BUT:
Did anyone see the recent episode where Cesar worked with the Black & Tan Coonhound? The dog had been used as a "lab rat" for years before being surrendered to animal control. His exposure to people had been very limited & sterile. A shelter worker (volunteer?) took pity & rescued him just before he was scheduled for euthanasia. She kept him for years, but was never able to develop a bond with him. He remained very shy & refused to really engage. What Cesar did was remarkable. He really gets it. I broke down & cried after that episode. He never ceases to amaze me.

Made me cry too. So did the new one this week about the rescue who had the chain embedded in his neck when he was taken from the abusive owner.
I rewatch some episodes regularly so I can pause it and watch his interaction with the dog(s).

I like his show too.I have great respect for a person like him.
As far as a PPD, ceasar milan does not encounter those types of dogs for his show, or needs to, anyway. Most ppd dogs are very well trained at least better than most average house pets. Most of the dogs that show aggression in his show is more of territorial, and fear
I haven't seen a show yet on helping a behavior on a trained PPD yet.Did I miss one? I read his book, loved it.

That was awesome! To be able to help any animal or person in the way he did the black and tan is special. And those people were so receptive to what he was saying. Lucky dog, I hope he does good. I don't really get excited about much t.v., but that was different. That was a really good show.

That was Banjo, and I believe it was the first episode of this season, with the pink Maltese in the same episode.

I agree, he's quite "The Man" Loves all dogs regardless of breed, temperment, Blah, Blah, but loves to help any in need? Sorry to say, but he has much more patience and compassion than I would have with a stranger's dog??
My question was not so much as to if he could help a PPD and his/her owner/handler, but if he were to walk into a house/room uninvited as he does with these dogs with dominance or behavioral issues, and still be able to control them as such.
I seem to think no; because of the vast amounts of training that goes into a PPD. I assume a PPD has gone through many steps of "proofing" on intruder type scenarios, and somebody doing what he does on the show would get a good bite in the rump?? I'm just wondering because I don't know much more than basic obedience training (which I am learning still from Ed's tape and this site).
Just something I was thinking about while watching the numerous epiodes I have DVR'd and come home and watch on Friday & Saturday nights??
