I'm trying to find a metal dog crate. It will need to meet airline regulations and be suitable for international shipping. The dog for which the crate will be used is an adult male working GSD so a L or XL securable crate will be required.
Can anyone recommend a source or supplier for such a crate? Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Mel,
You can always try the Kennel Air Creates, they can be found on E-Bay and many other places. I have one for my GSD and it is pretty portable, well lugable and has the one inch mess which I truly like. So try Kennel Air, I would think they would be approved for air travel.

Ed also sells aluminum crates on his site: http://www.leerburg.com/crate.htm
Don't know if they're airline approved, you can call Leerburg and find out. It seems they would be.

However, I believe getting a crate (at least the wire crate I got) from Kennel-Aire directly is more expensive than getting it from Drs. Foster and Smith The wire crate I got is under Professional Fold and Carry Cases (it's by Kennel-Aire). There are other crates on that site also. But not all are Kennel-Aire.
I do have to say though, that the wire crate I got is beginning to bend in certain places, the drop pin door is getting harder to drop into the holes as the front is a little bent inward. And not sure if a completely open view crate like the wire crate would be the best for an international trip. It's probably not very easy to handle for the airline folk. A more closed crate might be less stressful for the dog. JMO
Mel,
I know that I've reviewed a few crate manufacterer's in the past on the forum - might be worth your time to look up those posts using the search function.
Sandy,
Thanks for your comments. I'm not looking for a wire crate at all, only full metal (most similar to the aluminum type Ed offers). The GSD we're wanting to ship will destroy anything else. Standard plastic airline crates or straight wire won't hold him. Also, the wire crates don't meet specs for international shipping. I'll check out the links you provided for me, thanks for those!
Thanks again guys!! Your help has been much appreciated!
