We have four dogs a small mutt 12 yoa, a dachshund 1 year, a Bullmastiff 5 months and a German Shepherd 3 months. All these dogs eat Canidae with the treats (hotdogs, steak or Bil Jac liver treats) thrown in when training. I bath all my dogs at least once every two weeks and I shoot for once a week. All the dogs spend more time inside than out.
Despite the regular baths the Bullmastiff always stinks (perpetual wet dog smell) the other dogs do not.
First, are Bullmastiffs just naturally smelly?
Second, is there any supplement / shampoo I can give her that will help the stink. I assume since the baths are not cutting the mustard then she must be a natural stinker or have bad skin.
Third, does any one know of any Bullmastiff or Mastiff Boards that I can get some assistance from on this topic since Bullmasiffs are more of a sleeping / snoring dog rather than a working dog?
Thanks
Trent

Don't know much about the stink (assuming it's not coming from the ears, then you've probably got an infection), but it can't be good to give your dogs a bath every week. I'd take it to the vet just to rule out any medical problems.
I know how you feel, though. I laughed when my breeder told me that bouviers are notoriously "gassy"... I didn't think that flatulence could be a breed specific trait.
It can.

Trent,
I had Old English Mastiff's for year, and although to grew into basically inanimate objects that snored at maturity, they didn't smell.
However....I helped train a bloodhound unit for man trailing several years ago. The dogs were worked hard, and bathed frequently due to conditions - yet there were two of the blood hounds ( out of a five dog training unit ) that had a continual "stink" that was, well....nasty. Both handlers were aware of the smell, but had learned to live with it. The animal's crates and bedding were not something that I'd want in my car, let me tell ya.
And no one had a clue what caused it.

Check the folds of the lips. He could be harboring sores there causing constant infection therefore smelling all the time. It's not uncommon for dogs with overlapping jowls to get them infected. I also would not bathe a dog that much. It's depleting the oils on their skin would in return causes more itching scaling and dander. Check the mouth of the dog for anything in the mouth which may be infected such as a tooth or breath stinks.

Trent-
I had a pekingese. I know - not even close in the ball park. BUT-world's stinkiest dog even though I bathed her weekly.
Then I discovered the anal glands. Once I started keeping those squeezed out, the stink went away.
Try that. And take video to share. I want to see you do your mastiff.
Also try bathing/rinsing with vinegar and baking soda solution.

Thanks for the replies.
Roz, It is not the anal glands . The above mentioned mutt blesses us with those babies on occassion and that is some stink that would make a maggot gag.
The Bullmastiff stinks but not even in the same league as an anal gland explosion . But I will tell my bride we have a new job for her .
We have taken Cookie (the Bullmastiff) to the vet and there are no signs of infection, but I will check her mouth because I do not recall that being done before. She does not really smell like she has an infection (not that I would know what that smells like)she just always smell like a stinky dog that needs a bath.
I know I bathe alot, but with 4 inside dogs if you do not your house smells like a kennnel and your friends refuse to come over. We use Christopher's day to day shampoo which is supposed to be exceptionally gentle on their skin. But who knows? Anyway I will double check her skin to make sure we are not drying it out.
Thanks
Trent

Lucky you that it's not those anal glands. Those are REALLY GROSS. Totally agree with you about gagging a maggot.
Try the douche rinse. Also dry bathing with baking soda in between baths seems to help. If you rule out anything medical.
I have a groomer friend who's of the opinion smashed faced breeds seem to be smellier.

You might try altering the dog's diet.
