Have a 6 month old gsd that i recently got..The previous owner advised that she was fed diamond lamb and rice....Well, since i have had her i have been feeding the regular diamond food, not lamb and rice, cant find it around here......She has not had a normal bathroom yet, it has been all diarrhea. Do u think the food is the problem and if so will she get use to the dog food that im feeding or should i change....What dry dog food do u suggest
If you arent doing the Raw diet thing, try to find an all natural kibble, Ed has a list on the site. GSD can have a sensitive tummy, so I would fast the pup for day, intro food again and if diareah (spelling) continues, or if you have had loose bowels for more than 3 days you may want to go to the vet. IMO
And yes, I would get rid of Diamond Maintanance Formula, which has these as the first few ingredients: Chicken by-product meal, wheat flour, whole grain ground corn, rice bran, whole grain brown rice......

This http://www.leerburg.com/diarrhea.htm
will really give you a good overview, by the way, with the language to describe the diarrhea to the vet as well as the likely culprits.
We used this food because of the ingredients Duck & rice and his is pudding stools cleared up. Now when other meats are fed, there's no question as to which one upsets his system.
This was a good site someone listed in a previous conversation, you might find it helpful.
I just thought I'd throw in my two cents on Diamond Dog Food.
Another training facility I was involved with in the past exclusively used Diamond and the majority of their 30+ dogs ALWAYS had diarrhea/pudding like stool.
What a mess to clean up!
You recieved good advice from others on the subject.
When I got my PPD dog at a year and a half(he'll be 4 in April) , he had the runs , cow pile to be exact and so much of it.eeekk
Ever since he's been on Raw he has had solid stools ever since, I haven't seen cowpiles in a long time....
I really believe before spending money (like I did) on test of why they have the runs, switch to Raw and see first ,it's much cheaper!
