What does it stand for (DA2PLCPV) and how many series of these shots should a puppy get?
Well let me start of by saying I am not an expert or a Vet but having been raising dogs for a while a I can give this a good educated guess. (DA2PLCPV) D=Distemper, A= Adenovirus, P=parainfluenza, L=Leporisi, C=corona virus, PV=Parvo Virus. I also believe most combo vaccines also vacinate for hepititas although I didnt see it in the letter designation. I also think the 2 designation is for 2 types of leprosi. Most Vets recommend they get these shots at 6,9,12 weeks of age and yearly boosters. I know my spelling on the diseases suck but like I said not an expert. Hope I helped some.
Those abbreviations stand for Distemper, Adenovirus 2, Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis and canine parvo virus. (I work in a vet clinic)
I personally only give the distemper and parvo and only to young puppies--usually a series of 2 boosters---- 4 or so weeks apart. I do not vaccinate my adult dogs.
When to give them depends a lot on the history of the pup..... health, age at weaning, was it shipped, etc.....
Most vets will tell you to give puppy vaccines every 3-4 weeks til they are 4-6 months old....arrrgggggg <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

The vaccination protocol that's worked for us in a country with very high levels of pathogens in the environment is 1 at six weeks, 1 at 10 weeks and annual boosters thereafter. Rabies at 12 weeks and thereafter biannually. All assuming that we're talking about healthy dogs -- if not, vaccination's put off until good health returns.
Never been a problem, so I'm surprised at this. Clarify?

The protocol where I worked in New England was 8, 12, 16 with rabies at 16. Coronavirus was not given, but Lepto was. Lyme at 12 and 16.
This is NOT what I do with my dogs.
I give 8 and 12 DHLPPC. I don't give Rabies until at least 6 months. I run yearly vaccine titers to verify immunity. I have a 7 year old who has not had a DHLPPC since he was 2 and is still immunized.

Cindy is right - there is only one reason for annual vaccinations and that is to pay your vets operating expenses. Puppies do not need three sets of vaccinations - not unless you want to risk the serious medical problems that vaccinations can bring on in later life.
My question to any vet is : Do you expect me to believe that the Veterinary Industry is that fare behind the human medical industry that they cannot product a vaccine that is good for more than one year? You do not see humans lining up at their doctors door for their yearly vaccinations !!!!!
