I was wondering if anyone has any tried and true responses for those ignorant people who try to shame you for using a prong collar.
I am a small woman and use a prong on my 9 month old, 115 lb Boerboel when training or walking. I can't count how many times people come up and try to "educate" me on how cruel a prong is, and how I should be using a Halti or Gentle Leader for training. I try to explain how Haltis are not training collars, and can actually be damaging to the cervical vertebrae. I never get very far. They are always too busy shaking their heads at me.
I'd love it if any of you have a good comeback that would shut these people up!

There is nothing that will shut these people up. They don't want to talk to you, just at you. I usually try to ignore and keep moving. I guess their ignorance makes them bliss!!!
"Excuse me, I have been training dogs for 40 years, and I've seen dogs die from the misuse of a halti."
I like that one because I'm only 19. People are usually so busy being irritated that they don't think about what you're saying anyway, so I just try to see how outrageous I can be.
(I don't say that with people I'll see again, though)
Invite them to attempt to put a Halti or Harness on your 115 lb dog and take him for a walk.
I agree with Susan, usually these people are so self-involved/self-righteous that they actually aren't interested in what you have to say about your dog, given that they're spewing forth unsolicited advice to a total stranger.
Boy, you guys are giving me such good stuff! Thanks! I guess I shouldn't let peoples comments get to me. I's sure like to see them try to walk him on a Halti! He's pretty well mannered for a pup, but he is still a 115 lb pup! He still sometimes loses his furry little mind when he meets up with new people/dogs ect... I can't imanigine anyone keeping control of my bucking bronco on a Halti. Never mind trying to teach him anything!
