I don't know if I'm on the right place, but I'd like to know if somebody can point me in the right direction to a place in Minnesota where I can learn how to train dogs. Anything to get started, obedience, Schutzhund, PPD, SAR, etc. I'd appreciate any info.
Most people that I know that train dogs were people that trained their own dogs and then competed successfully in various sports. They learned how to train my training their own dogs, kept an open mind so they could pick up different training styles so they would be more versatile in training different types of dogs and would have better ideas how to deal with problems that come up in training. I would suggest that you find a sport and school or club you really like and just get involved.
Where in MN are you and what are you most interested in?
I'm in MInneapolis. I've checked out a couple Schutzhund clubs, the Midwest Ring Sports and so on. I have a titled ZVV1 female gsd (I didn't title her of course) and I'm doing basic obedience with my St. Bernard at the Animal Humane Society. I'm interested most in PPD, Schutzhund and Ring sports.
Have you gone to any of the Mike Ellis seminars that the ring sport club hosts? Red Star kennel is just across the border in WI. I have not been out to their training stuff, but it's another group to look into. Last time I was at their website, they had a group doing the Iron Dog competition.
If you want to work on training a dog's grip... I ruined my dog's grip. (I made quick work of it too). I live about 2 hours away from you.
