Statement first Question 2nd I think I understand after many hours on this site and others between Prey, Defense and Fight drive, keep in mind I am saying an educated understanding not as much an experienced understanding, I am not a trainer but a channel to my own dog. And I may have been one of the lucky ones to actually witness fight drive even though it was very brief. And it happened very fast, now for the question.
Can a dog trained in PPD that has been trained in personal attack have a set up situation where he/she is walking the dog and out of no where a bad guy appears for an attack and the dog engages but there are 2 bad guys, the other runs away if you send the dog for the 2nd guy and the dog completes the take down and holds, he is moving into fight drive or Prey or is this still a sign of defense? Because the handler is still somewhat close by the dog still deems threat to the handler. Keep in mind this dog has never had any training in PSD.
Thanks for your knowledge in advance
Edit: Just like to point out that it is not a situation that dictates a dogs drive. It is the dogs interpretation of a situation as well as their genetics that dictates the drive they are in. You can take 2 different dogs and have them perform the same situation in completely different drives and a completely different state of mind to eachother.

If the decoy is making *any* movement, a dog may go into prey drive, so the scenario is not as cut-and-dried as it first seems.
And if a decoy is wearing any recognizable equipment ( ie a bitesuit... ), the dog knows it's pretty much training.
This scenario done with decoys that the dog has never encountered before wearing hidden sleeves under fresh clothing ( ie, not the same jacket that's been used to cover the hidden sleeve for 50 bites now...covered with dog saliva ) and not using common dog training equipment could have some value. Add darkness to the scenario and do it in an area unfamilar to the dog and you've got the makings of a useful test
Thanks Mike and Will for your time and response makes a lot of sense and I did want to add that the situation above is hypothetical not a actual training exercise.
