Ok, I've brought this up before...my pup, on occasion, has a limp in his front right foot. Now, I have taken him into the vet about it and he told me that everything seemed okay and rather than having to spend $ to xray it that we would give it time, see what happens. He figured it was probably growing pains or something. Well, it did go away but now it's back again and I'm thinking I might know what is causing it..I just don't know how to stop it. We have a very large stainless steel bucket for the dogs water outside onthe porch. Levi likes to play in it and gets on these kicks where he just stands there and digs in it like a crazed wolf! Of course I tell him to stop and he does but I know when I'm not around to stare at him he is still doing it. Can anyone suggest to me how to get this crazy puppy to stop doing this??? other than kenneling him..lol
PANO!! What a pain in the head!!! My gsd just turned two and he has had terrible pain and limping on and off since I cant remember. If its pano pretty much all you can do is give him an aspirin and try keep him rested which is both impossible and a terrible inconvenience when you are trying to train.
And keep in mind that age has quite a wide range. My current guy went through 4 bouts, between 8 and 13 months. My previous GSD had at least 2 around 18 months. Connie - I think it can show up as early as 6 months?
Levi just turned 51/2 months old. It is most noticeable when we walk outside. At first I thought it was just his gait but now I don't think so. I see he favors the right foot alot more.
Robbin, I have heard of puppies as young as 5 months having bouts of Pano. Pano is usually what vets mean when they say "growing pains."
If you really believe that your water bucket is what's causing the problem, well then I would change your water container! Personally, in my non-medical capacity, it sounds like Pano. But I'm not a vet, and I don't even play one on TV.

Great way of putting it, Amber. I had wanted to add more to my post, but didn't want to be accused of practicing without a license. So, with the caveat that I'm not a vet either... Robbin, 3 of my guy's 4 Pano bouts were in the same leg (right front, as it so happens). And, I'm in no way saying this couldn't be serious, but don't panic just yet. Pano is very common in GSDs, can come and go for months and months, and is extremely unlikely to cause lasting harm. Read up on it a bit and you'll feel better.
I know...I never want to make a diagnosis online (or offline, for that matter) but at the same time, I know where Robbin's coming from in that it's nice to find out if others have had similar experiences so you aren't completely worried all night.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best and all that...
