Lol,...I remember reading that trainers ignorant "Challenge", she always came across as a "wannabe" who couldn't back up her brags.
Funny that the trainer got her start being a trainer at Petsmart.
So she was trained by the "Sit means Sit" method... how interesting.
And I love how the trainer complaints that her problems are "racially motivated" ....sorry, that's just lame.
It's unfortunate that the writer of the article falls for the BS about the IACP and the APDT - two totally useless organizations ( the trainer in question was a member of the APDT, go figure... )

I didn't know that if you owned an e-collar that makes you a "dog whisperer"
"sit means sit" is so geto.......they treat their dogs like circus animals, perform in grocery store parking lots to "show off" their great training abilities holding a E-collar remote.of course with out it we all know they couldn't teach their dogs to sit..

The worth of a picture: her right hand, as it holds the e-collar, has to be one of the most scarred ones I've seen. From that partial view of her thumb, index finger and wrist, I count no less than six bites, three of them serious. One dreads to think what a full survey of both hands will reveal.
Now any trainer, anyone who handles dogs, can get bitten and probably will at some point, but this is over and above that occupational hazard. Those are the hands of a person at war with dogs, a person who regards training as less of a partnership and more of a 'I'll-hurt-you-worse-than-you-can-hurt-me' power struggle.
And boy is it congruent with what the article alleges.
Adversarial, incompetent, preferring to rant about people being 'PC' rather than intelligently consider the merit of any criticism... no hope for this one. I really hope she is barred from ever owning or training dogs again in any capacity, though I'm less than confident that it can be enforced.
The plural of anecdote is not data.

Those offenses should be a felony not a misdemeanor. She is neither a trainer nor a "dog whisperer." She should have e-collars out around various parts of her body, set at the highest levels and then stimulated every few seconds.
And, if the PETA folks had received multiple complaints, why hadn't they done anything? I'm glad that man took the time to do something about the situation.

Wow...just wow...
You need to sit back in your garden, sip a whiskey, smoke a cigar and THINK about your dog training. |

That's just terrible.
I'd like to see an article by Ed critiquing her work.

Why? most of us can figure out this trainer is a cruel ego kook. But my only concern is the suggestion for a state or nation "certification" program for dog trainers. I'm a trainer, I get paid in beer, will I need Cert?

Oh my....
I've heard people overreact when electric collars are mentioned, but never thought such amount of pain would ever be inflicted upon any dog in reality. It's a wonder the woman didn't give the dogs heart attacks or seizures.
I'm no expert in training and I've still managed to train my pup basic obedience commands without electronic collars or harsh training. From my view, two months to train basic obedience isn't too bad. He gets better everyday, but I look at training as a lifelong process.
I guess people fail to realize that dogs aren't human, they are significantly less intelligent than humans, and above all they are living breathing animals. They not little computers that can be reprogrammed in two days, and they're not little balls of fluff meant to make you feel good about yourself. Dogs are animals that willingly accept humans as companions. They are one of the few animals that can understand humans, even if only on the most basic of levels.
I enjoy having Tank and Amy. Everyday I am more amazed by how much they learn. I'm even more amazed by how much of what they learn wasn't taught by me while training.

I was not there nor did I see what was going on. I'm afraid to say to much on the subject. I will say "E" collars have there place in training. Just like a pinch, choke or eaven food. It is a tool. If it is not used right it can do more harm than good. I hope nobody assumes just because a dog yelps they are being abused. Like I said I was'nt there. I do knowsome dogs do not have a problem with them and others just shut down. I think we all have to be smart about what tool we use and when. Thank you for being patient on such a sensitive tool. LANCE proponent of the "E" collar when used correctly!!!!!!!!
