Carbon, my 6 month old GSD, has a dead puppy tooth that won't give up the ghost. It's his right lower canine, and the adult one does not seem to like sharing the space.
All of his other puppy teeth are out, and all of the adult teeth are in. I'm concerned about this one because, despite a couple of weeks of wiggling it (hey...it's what my son's doctor told me to do when he had a stubborn baby tooth), it's not getting any looser. And yesterday I noticed that the adult tooth is not in the right spot as a result.
So anyone have experience with this? Is this something I should just have patience with or do I need to call a doggie dentist? I'll try to post a pic of it later on this evening.

I just found a thread from December about this, but still not sure what to do...he does have things to chew on. His tooth is wiggly, but it's no wigglier than it was 2 weeks ago.
If this is something that needs to be pulled, how do they go about doing this? Do they have to put him under for it?

I had a dog with one that was pretty stuck, I wiggled and yanked for 2 weeks till it came out.
If it isn`t out by 2 weeks I`d let a vet pull it. Probably just a mild sedative and a quick procedure.
He`s a good looking boy.

Thanks, Roger. I'd rather not have it come to having to give him a sedative, but I'll keep sticking my hands in his mouth (which he loves ) and wiggling until Monday and then I guess I'll call the vet. I found one of his puppy molars the other day. I can't believe how itsy it is compared to those massive chompers he has now.

My dog had a baby tooth that wouldn't come out. The adult tooth came in, but the baby tooth never really let go. It died very quickly and stunk the whole room up when he was around. It actually smelled like I had stepped in dog crap. I had to get it removed, but it was around the same time he got fixed so I killed 2 procedures with one time being put under. Thats just my experience. All I really know about teeth is that they are supposed to be white.

We had the same problem with my last GSD. Six months and still holding on. Was getting worried and vet was wanting to pull. We waited it out and all is fine. breath was horible and canines were putting a hole in the roof of his mouth. I let him play with a large jolly ball to help loosen but think this helped his grip become mouthy. Anyway good luck.

Well, took Carbon to the vet and now he's scheduled to have the baby tooth removed under general anesthesia tomorrow morning. I HATE the idea of him being knocked out. The vet said he may also have an occlusion (improper bite) and was saying that it's possible that he may have to have his lower canine teeth removed at some point later on.
I really wish he hadn't said anything to me about a "down the road" possibility because it's difficult for me not to worry about things. There's a clause in the Carbon's contract from the breeder that pertains to an improper scissor bite, but I sure as hell don't want his canines removed. Grrrrrr.
I will certainly get a second opinion on this if it comes to that. Anyone have any experiences to share?

Anesthesia scares me, too. Don't worry too much, I bet everything will be fine. Look on the bright side, after you pick him up tommorrow he will probably still be groggy and you might get a couple hours rest. Until the next day when all is forgotton and he's bouncing off the walls waiting for you to throw something so he can get it.

I know! That's what I've been trying to tell myself, but the truth is that I spend such a large amount of time with my dog and so much of my day is planned around him that I'll be noticing that he's gone over and over! The Corgi will be happy though!
I don't know why I'm so freaked out about him going under tomorrow...I know that he'll probably be fine. I'm realizing that how irreplaceable your dog is to you is in direct proportion to the amount of paranoia you have in situations like this!
Also, I love the vet who determined that it needed to be pulled, but I HATE the guy who's doing it. He's a fabulous vet in surgery, but I think he's an incredible jerk. A first class butt nugget. He's the guy some people might remember from one of my posts a long time ago about a vet that hated Corgis. My Corgi didn't bite him, but I wanted to.
The upside is that he LOVES GSDs...they're his all time favorite breed...but still.
