Anyone looking for a trainer in West Virginia and surrounding areas:
http://www.mtstatek9.com
Trainer is named Nick Nichols. Trains in both companion and competitive dog training. Reasonably priced and excellent to work with.

Is the trainer a K9 officer - I'm asking this as I read his personal protection section and it seems kind of slim for somebody training PPD's.
Has the trainer titled a dog in any sport other than PSA?
Just as a note, when a personal protection area warns against use of a firearm for self-defense with a statement that an "accident" can occur resulting in "jailtime", well......that's not a site to take very seriously.

I can't take it seriously when he says if you think your dog can take the stress of protection sports, contact him and he'll help you decide what's best "for your pooch". Pooch??? Sounds like he specializes in training Shepadoodles.

your disapproval for the term pooch is unfortunate. to think that you must put down someone because of terminology is disturbing. you have no idea of the training skills of this company but have determined from "pooch" that he must be no good. try not judging until you try them out. not all training is bitework and sport. some people just like to own pet dogs that are obedient. thank you for your advice.

Jason,
To be honest, I was not impressed with the site and really was not impressed that the "stud" dogs were "in training" for whatever. From what it looked like to me, he is crossing Mals, GSD's and Dutch Shepherds. That is his perogative and one can oonly hope that he is doing his research on breeding.
It would not be a site I would even consider contacting for information if I were "new" to the dog world.
I think that Will and Anita are correct with what they mentioned and I did not take it as them talking bad about anyone. You offered up a site and you got feedback.
If you only wanted to hear positive opinions you should have posted this on a pet board.

I'm not sure where you are getting the cross breeding from. The gsd is an import from czech and is from tarheel canine training facility.
I should mention the site is under construction and is only in the beginning phases of development. I appreciate all feedback, including Will's. His advice was taken under advisement and corrections were made accordingly. There will be updates often during the next few weeks. I request only constructive advice, not unfortunate off the cuff comments. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And I appreciate any advice/comments that can be made.
I respect your comments and will use them to help advance the website.

It would also be helpful if you disclose your relationship with Mr. Nichols.

I am the webmaster and train with him. I am new to site building and am learning everyday. Again, I must mention that there is no cross-breeding. I'm just not sure where that came from.

Just so you know, what you are getting is feedback that anyone might have from viewing the site. What I mean by that is that other people (not from this board) viewing it might have similar reactions...such as Anita's comment about the word "pooch." For her, it doesn't seem professional. I happen to agree with her, since it's mentioned in reference to protection work...which is not just "pet dogs being obedient."
You're asking for feedback on a website who's purpose is, I assume, to attract clients. If that's the case, then it doesn't make sense to say "try not judging until you try them out." People DO make judgements based on a website...that's the point!

Thank you for your comments. I would like to mention 2 points. First, the vast majority of canine training is in companion training, not protection. Obedience is the most important aspect of training, which I don't need to explain here. Second, at no point was feedback requested. I simply posted the site as an advertisement for anyone in the surrounding area needing a trainer.
Again, I appreciate the comments, but life doesn't revolve around protection sports. Companion dogs are great, too!
