Sarah Morris Webboard User Reg: 08-29-2006 Posts: 2324 Loc: Central Coast, California Offline	This is a very simplistic answer: Dogs often get pancreatitis when they've binged on rich or fatty food...be it dry food, raw, or when they've gone dumpster diving and eaten too many scraps. There are other reasons dogs get it, and it can be very serious if not treated, but too much food, especially fatty food, is the main culprit that we see. Some dogs are very prone to getting it...sensitive digestive system, I guess. Depending on the severity, treatment involves hospitalization, IV fluid therapy (no food or water by mouth), and daily blood tests to check if the dog is improving. I'd say the majority of our clients do not feed raw...yet we see a lot of pancreatitis. If you have a dog prone to it you have to be a little more careful of what you feed them but I can't imagine that would mean you couldn't feed raw. True

Once a dog has had an attack of pancreatitis, I would monitor fat in general. JMO. I'm not a health professional.
