My new puppy is 8 weeks old. I have the small hemp collar for her, but it seems a bit bulky so I got her a small "temporary" one until she gets used to something around her neck. I also have a 5 foot leash that she drags everywhere (completely supervised ). When I am in the kitchen, which isn't closed off from the rest of the house, I put the loop of the leash around my ankle so she can't wander off. Mostly, she just sits and watches me, but sometimes she reaches the end and freaks out.
I know we are not supposed to tug on the leash when they are puppies, and I don't want her to hate the leash. I wasn't sure if I am supposed to let her fight it and get used to it or not. What I have been doing is releasing the slack or calling her to me.
Also, do I leave the drag leash on when she is in her kennel or crate?
Hey Michelle, I don't know about the rest of your questions, but I take everything off my pup when I put him the crate. Definately No leashes and No collars. My pup would chew the leash. :-)
If he is in the crate for the evening, I usually take off his harness, but if it is daytime I leave the harness on.
