I've been giving my adult dogs liquid glucosamine (2000Mg)for years. I am a firm believer that it aids in joint health. This particular liquid also has 1200MG of Chondroitin, 50mg of Collagen and 500 mg of MSM. The adults have been getting 1 oz over their food once a day.
I'd like to start Heidi, 16 weeks next Tuesday, on this asap. I'd like to hear your opinions as to whether I should start now or wait. My thought would be to give her 1/2 oz daily until age 1 year.

I put my pup on Grand-Flex glucosamine early on. When he was diagnosed with HD at 4 months I switched to Syn-Flex liquid and followed the directions (on this site) dosing according to weight.
Thanks Sarah, I think I'll start her on the glucosamine now at 1/2 dosage for while. I want to start as early as possible to promote good joint health, but I don't want to over dose her.
I would also like to hear opinions on the amount of leisurely walking a pup of 16 weeks should do. I don't want to over walk, but I think its important to help build muscle. I've been walking her up and down my street for about 15-20 minutes letting her take in the sights and sounds around her. The first time she discovered a horse was hilarious. She seemed to think it was a big dog. Of course, she was scared of it at first, but now, she just walks right on by. She enjoys it and it seems to be to be one great way to bond.

A leisurely walk for a short time should be fine. Power walks with young pups are, from my reading, a no-no.
It was suggested to me that walking uphill is better than walking downhill and walking on softer surfaces is better than hard cement.
I do recall one person suggesting offlead walks so the pup could go at his own pace and stop and rest when needed. I understand the reasoning behind that but I never tried it...you need a pretty remote area to be able to do that safely, IMO.
