I have an ACD that is 1.5 years old. She's a wonderful dog. She's housebroken, and I take her to the same spot outside every day to do her busy, which she does with no problems. But she is NEVER fully finished. Every time we go for a walk she squats down 10 - 20 mins into the walk and craps again. Right on the sidewalk to the delight of all the passers by. The other day she went 4 times in an hour.

How can I train her to not go anywhere except where I tell her too? It's not as if I can pick her up when she decides to go on the street - not unless I want poop all over me. There is no warning. Sometimes I don't even know she's gone until I turn back and see a line of poop.

Could her pooping on the street have anything to do with where I have her poop all the time? It's not grass. It's stones. Could her walking on the sidewalk remind her of the stones where she walks on to poop?

Second, is your dog leaving behind a trail of loose stool? Or formed stool?

What are you feeding and how much per day?

Is she excited to get out and go for walks or is she laid back?

How long are you waiting for her to go where you want her to go?

And, how often do you take her out for walks and what other exercise does she get?

"T", it's not unusual for dogs to have to go more than once when they're pooping.

However, leaving a "line of poop" (if you mean loose poop) sounds like maybe whatever she's eating isn't agreeing with her.

As long as she isn't going inside and is "holding it" until she's outdoors, I don't think it's something you should try to correct her for. If she has to go, she has to go. She can't really control that.

Who cares if she goes on the street anyway?
If you pick it up each time, no one should complain.

If you're feeding kibble, you might consider switching her to a raw diet.

Dogs poop 10 times less on a raw diet compared to kibble. Plus the poop is tiny, dry, smells WAY less and turns to dust after a couple of days if you forget to pick it up

With some dogs, walking may stimulate peristalsis.(WHEW! Big word for me. I think I should go lay down now.) I know that when I take my dogs for walks that they will have to stop about a 1/4 mile into the walk to poo. The rest of the times their poo is normal, but can get "soft serve" when we walk. If I don't stop the little guy will poo on the fly.

Ditto to what everyone else said. The last dog I had did the same thing on walks. It may have been a bit embarassing (to me, not to her :wink: )if people were around, especially when she decided to do it on the sidewalk in front of their house, but they don't own the sidewalk and I always carried plastic grocery bags with me to clean up everything. Short of it being annoying to have to carry it home with me, I just dealt with it, it's what she did and so be it. Not a biggie.

At home she went on the grass, but that didn't stop her from going on concrete. The surface difference didn't matter.

how long has she been doing this? i think there is something related to what u feed her. probably u'd better check with your vet about the problems.

my goldie likes to poo on the sidewalk, so i can understand your pain. every time i need to watch him when he needs to poo again after exercising for an hour. i have my plastic bag handy, when he is trying to poo and i put the bag under right away lol. i dont wanna make mess on the sidewalk. :P

but if u cannot expect when she does that, it is very hard for u to pick up the loose stool.

My dog does the same this as Michael's does, gets excited to go to the park/for a walk and can't control herself and it does eventually go to "soft serve".

Firstly, let me give some more information about my dog.

My dog can't eat a raw diet. Everything I have given her has resulted in explosive diarrhea, ever since I bought her when she was 10 weeks old - she's now a year and a half. The vet tested her and found a large growth of Constridium Parenthagen (sp). After the 4th set of medication (vet said one set should be enough) she was still having the problems, but I could no longer afford the medication.

I switched her to kibble (Wellness, and now Dr. Wysong) - 2 cups a day as per the instructions. That stopped the explosive diarrhea. Her first poop is always solid, but subsequent poops are soft, and osccasionally diarrhea. I feed her nothing else.

As soon as I'm working again, I plan to take her back to the vet and have her re-checked and continue the medication. If the problem is not gone after the Constridium Parenthagen is all gone, then I'll have to look at checking her blood, and god knows what else.

I take her out 2 - 3 times a day. Simply because of my schedule. She NEVER poops or pees in the house. She's very energetic, and loves to go outside. I take her out in the morning, during the day if I am home, and in the evening or before bed time.

I let her run and I play a lot with her in the back yard, but I don't take her for walks as often as I should, because I'm embarrassed that she poops soft - diarrhea on the street. If it was solid poop I wouldn't care, because I could just pick it up, but the diarrhea is just too messy to deal with.

I guess I'll just have to make more frequent stops on our walk, and give her a chance to go again again, before she suprises me.

What were you feeding as far as raw diet? Which type of Wysong's food are you feeding? There are a few to choose from.

I see that Chicken is the first ingredient in one, but the next three or four are grains.......not sure I like that, but I am a raw feeder also. I am just not familiar with that food.

I will have to research the Constridium......not familiar with that either.

I will do that now...........
