Hey all - I crate my PB at night and I am looking for ideas on how to make or buy an indestructable cover for her dog bed. I have her favorite bone in the crate for her to chew on but it seems that over a period of a month to three months she slowly disentigrates the dog bed. An inch of zipper here, a tiny hole there . . . Until the fluff starts to come out. Do you think I could by kevlar and sew a protective cover for the soft inners? Or does anyone know of where an indestrucable one could be found? I think I will resort to blankets from the thrift store if I can't figure anything else out but that is probably going to be the same issue with less comfort for her.
Thanks - Kelly

The GSD Malamute cross I had destroyed the fake sheep skin ones in about 3 minutes. I don't thing there's such a thing as totally destroy proof bedding. Some people have had success using the extra strong mud flaps used on big rig trucks, but actually your dog doesn't really need bedding unless he has a medical condition such as arthritis or dysplasia that makes lying on the crate floor very uncomfortable for him.
I agree with Elaine Haynes - I've taken everything out of Nickie's crate this past week and he seems to rest better at night - it's starting to get really warm here in Las Vegas. This past winter he had one of the fake sheepskin mats which he did not chew at all. Then I switched over to an old towel for him to lay on (easier to change it out every couple of days). Just in the past month he has started to chew on the edges (swallows the cloth). That was my main reason for having nothing in his crate except a heavy-duty kong for chewing.
I like the cow mat idea. I still need to go out to our "barn" and cut one or two to size for our pup. I give the pup a towel ... he fights with it, he dries himself with it, and sometimes just lays down on it. So cow mat or no, he'll probably always get an old towel.
Pillows get destroyed... I've thrown away the big pink one and the little blue one.
Someone turned me onto the idea of a "moving blanket" you can buy them cheap on eBay - I bought them for $6 apiece and you can fold them to fit in the crate. They are plenty sturdy, have some padding and are stiffer than a blanket (dimensionally) so they don't crumple up - well Cyras does as she likes to dig in her bed but the others' don't The dogs dont seem as inclined to nibble on them.
LOL, my Akita alias "Destructo-Doggie Deluxe", demolished anything she ever slept on (no stall mats for sale in San Francisco...) until I found a cheap substitute at Target -- I was shopping there for something unrelated when I happened to see a stack of really thick rubber doormats that fit perfectly in her crate <:-)
She's never made a dent in it, so I solved that problem for $20 !
