Is it not a good source of protien? Definately would be adding to variety. I could get enough to replace whole meals. Maybe just add a few on top. Any ideas? MJK

They're like large, wiggly rocks with wings (they idotically fly right into my hair and get stuck, buzzing, and man...it creeps me out.) Give me spiders any day. My dog has eaten them. There are no ill effects, except to me as a result of hearing the crunching sound. I would say if your dog will eat a few June bugs; well, that's less June bugs in the world and that's great with me. But I don't think I would give them as a whole meal...their exoskeleton is made of chitin, which is similar to (and stronger than) cellulose. It's the same stuff that makes up crab and lobster shells and the beaks of octopi. I don't know for sure, but if dogs can't digest cellulose well, I would think they have an even harder time digesting chitin. Its breakdown is facilitated by enzymes called chitinases, which I doubt dogs have. Anyway, I'm sure the gooey middle stuff is full of protein, but the chitin to protein ratio probably means that most of the bug won't get digested. Carbon
