I fed exclusively barf for the last year but am going to switch back to kibble. I am going to feed canidae. My question is, can I feed this in the morning but continue to feed turkey necks at night? I would like to keep the benefit of clean teeth by feeding these. I have heard that kibble digests different from raw, but is there enough time in between to feed both?
I don't know what the rates of digestion are but I feed kibble for the morning meal and raw for the evening meal without any problems. A friend of mine does as well.
However, I've heard that some dogs have difficulty with that. I think that you'll just have to try it and see.
When I was home for spring break I fed Auster (formerly just a kibble and people food dog) a chicken back or neck and gizzards for breakfast and kibble for dinner. She didn't have a single problem, even considering that 40% (about) of her diet changed. Sooo, I think it is something that varies by dog. I've noticed that Auster (the iron gut dog) hasn't been doing as well on kibble lately so I was ready to show my family that a raw bone or two wouldn't kill her, thankfully with wonderful results.

I think you'll be fine as long as you feed these strictly at different times - BARF/raw food digests completely differently than kibble does, and feeding them both at the same time could cause problems. Let us know how it goes.
I have fed a combination of home-cooked, BARF, and kibble for 8 years with no problems. Either seperately or together. 3 years ago I switched to a holistic human grade kibble called Wellness. It is baked instead of extruded and contains either deboned chicken, Atlantic whitefish, or hormone free lamb depending on the formula. It's been ranked #1 by the Whole Dog Journal.
"Wellness does not contain any rendered animal fats, meat by-products, wheat, corn or white rice and also does not contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives of any kind." from the Old Mother Hubbard Website
I also add yoghurt with live bacterial cultures every other day. It has been my experience through other friends with dogs, that variety IS sometimes the spice of life. Those who choose not to vary their dogs diet are often the ones whose dogs suffer from gastrointestinal upsets, from either end.

WOW!!! I used to feed Wellness to my dog and she loved it and did great on it!!! Then the distributor went out of business, so I have been switching around ever since!!!
How do you get it? It's not common at all. Is there a website to order direct? I didn't know of any last year.
Now I am going to feed Sojourners Dog food and other raw foods, but I liked the Wellness enough to find a way to incorporate it. I am told that variety is what does a dog the most good (from a dietary standpoint)
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
There are several online retailers selling wellness. If you type wellness dog food into the search feild of yahoo it will bring up at least 3 online retailers.
Here is a link to find out where you can buy Wellness Locally though. I am almost sure you will find somewhere that carries it locally. Heck I can get it here in Maine and half of the country doesn't even know where we are.... after New York it all turns in to New England. Where to find Wellness
Maybe I missed something here, but where is the benefit (if any) in feeding half raw and half kibble ?
