I would like to know if I start imprinting prey drive with my pup and follow Ed's recommendations in his video bite training for pups and then dont do any protection work or schutzhund will I have a problem dog?
I would most likely want to start doing schutzhund but just on case I change my mind and decide to do just agility I want to make sure I dont set myself up for an over dominant dog.
I am not worried about the dominance issue myself but Im worried about friends and family.
I would only assume that prey drive will help in any sport I may choose.
My other question was if I dont discourage mouthy behavor when the dog is young will this lead to Dominance issues later?
Are you suppose to correct them if they are biting your hands and you are unable to redirect them with a toy when they are young?
Welcome and wow. One question at a time. Prey work will have no effect either way on dominance and rank. Now teaching the dog that the prey item is yours and you are just lending it to him helps with the out and dominance but has nothing to do with the prey work. There are many schools of thought on whether to allow a dog to put his mouth on you or to correct this. Ed feels you should correct this and redirect to a prey item with loads of praise. This will have no effect on the drive if done correctly.
