Well Its official, Ive broken her down, my wife has given the ok to get another dog (If I will go to church), so I can do Schutzhund. First dog was a horrible decision, I should have done the homework. So he will be backyard champion! Anyways Im taking all suggestions,
EF stop breeding, so where should I turn? Ive worked a dog a little in old Sch club but Im still a novice, should I get a young adult that someones imprinted? stay with the GSD's or go to a rottie! Im open to everyones opinion. I'll be home from Iraq at the end of june. So I'll need all the advice I can get till then. I'll join metro atlanta club when I get home, only about 80 minutes from macon. thanks guys james

Puppies are a crap shoot. No matter how careful you are, you might get a lemon. I did. It sucks. I'm pretty sure it will be my last puppy experience for a long time.
I think 6 - 8mo old is a good age to evaluate a puppy. (JMHO)

GSD to Rottie????
What happened to the Malinois....where are all the Mal people? I know they are here somewhere...... just kidding.
Yep, pups are a crap-shoot and I am finding that out I think. I am hoping the spookiness in my male disappears as he gets a bit older. For right now I am concentrating on socializing him correctly and confidence building.
It is getting better but hmmmmmm, we will have to see how it pans out.

the mals are ok, but they look like little hyenas that should be chasing down a small deer somewhere. But I hear they are fast, only seen a couple ringsport dogs, but when I came over here there were to MWDH on the plane, there dogs were skinny and small, but boy, even through the muzzels they still tried to take everyone near them out as they walked by. Anyone know any consistant kennels?

If you are interested in doing schutzhund you may want to limit your search to breeds that are best adapted to the sport like GSD's, Dutchies & Mals.

Hi James,
2 people i'd contact : PM Will Rambeau on this site, he's a friend of mine and he got me a cool czech male awhile back, kickass dog but social! how often do you see that? Plus he's a great guy to talk to, he doesn't sell dogs anymore but he'd be willing to help out a serious person in need of a dog.
2nd, i'd call Francesco carotanuto at K9 nation, i believe his website is http://www.k9nation1.com, i've got a 6 month old male of his right now and he's a lot of dog already, not sure exactly what you're looking for but if them 2 don't have it, it's not out there, lol.
Good luck in finding your new pup, the new pup i have here now (i've got 4) is truly a monster, it's just got to where i can pet him, LOL,
AL

thanks, will is local so that helps. I will pm him. man i posted on pedigree database and you should see the people coming out of the woodwork, Im no EF or WR but I can spot these junk dogs by watching the videos, what is it with ppd dogs these days, people take all these dogs and just teach them to bite a sleeve and try to sell them as sport dogs? no ob or anything, dogs have to be forced to out. its crazy
p.s I know there are some here that have ppd's that are the real deal, very civil, but still social, im just referring to the videos ive seen. Dont mean anything negative.

What are GSD and Rotties. Are they as good as Malinois.
Yes I have a Mal after having 3 GSD. Love my little Mal she is just 6 months. I hope to do IPO with her when she grows up. She comes from some good working lines. I reckon pups are good you just need to ensure there is some good working heritage.

Long ago someone on the board mentioned Cathoula's. Since becoming aware, I have read up on them. They are a fascinating breed! Maybe check them out. Not 100% sure of their schutzhund capacity, bu VERY cool looking, supposedly smart, tenacious hunters and fighters??!!

James, there is a Rottie breeder in Ohio that you may want to check into. Sending via PM.
From my research and experience, Rotties are very able to do Schutzhund work. They are a working breed, and very lovable and social if you take the time with them. The main thing to remember about Rotties is that they are very intelligent, and have the attitude of "Okay, I get what you want me to do. Show me WHY I should do it." Lots of folks get unhinged at that point, and start forcing the dog. :frown: Well, let me put it this way; a handfull of hot-dog bits will get your Rottie to do things the "crank-n-yankers" will envy for years.
Whatever way you decide to go, luck with your new pup/dog!
-Jim
