I have tried a few of the things suggested ,i.e the glueing etc
my last attempt was with the breathrite strip plasters they seemed to do a better job that the glueing and they are now half up but the tips seem to lay down, it is like the tips are very soft and bend forward over each other , i have given cottage cheese and natural yoghurt in his diet , but still no joy should i just give up and accept that his ears are going to remain soft tipped and bend ? i am in the UK (england) and it is very frowned upon here to help GSD ears to stand, the amount of people that have said it is cruel and i should leave his ears alone , when i am out on walks when people ask me what are wrong with his ears (when glued) i get very disapproving looks and replies of well if his ears stay down why dont you leave them down , "will you love him or care for him any less" well of course not i tell them , so they say well why bother putting him through it,
what do you think should i still perservere (sorry spelling) or just leave them alone??????

Perhaps those people are thinking you cropped the ears. Let them know you did not surgically change the ears but are helping them up while he is growing. If anyone thinks that is cruel then they are just silly & you should not worry about their uninformed comments. Can yuo post a picture so we can get a better idea? Did you know that it is not uncommon for GSD ears to go up then down then up until the teething process is complete?
Hiya!,
I just wanted to let you know that my GS, her right ear did not stand till 6 mos and the left at 8 mos of age. It does happen that for some dogs it takes longer. Unless the ears were injured and the cartilage broken, I would not worry just yet. ~Michele
Ms.Hart,
i think you maybe worrying to much, as my gs did the same thing,so i started playing a game with her, it sounds silly but if you howl like a wolf, the dog will strain its ear muscles to hear were the sound is coming from. They will tilt there head back and forth, and strain to hear the pitch, its funny but it works , it took about a month and her ears went up. Try it ,if nothing else its a fun game.
He is soooo precious, what a beautiful color coat. He seems to have a sweet disposition, too.
As far as the ears are concerned, if you want to keep trying until you're satisfied that you've done what you can, then do so. It's not at all cruel since there's no pain involved.
thought i would add as i didnt want to leave her out i have a 2 1/2 yr old white GSD as well and her ears were up at 8 wks old and never went down even when teething this is a pic of her at 8 wks old http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w213/miche1168/Picture571.jpg
