Konnie, I'd be VERY afraid of doing a purely cosmetic procedure. If this is a GSD pup, it is nearly certain that the ears will pop up on their own. There are several threads on how to help with this.
Ummmm...thanks for the advice, Jim. However, I do not have a GSD pup and all of my dogs' ears are in the appropriate position per their breed. My reason for asking about this is not centered around any dog in particular. No "counseling" necessary here.
Just wondering if anybody has ever heard of this, ever had it done, or knows how expensive it is.

Sometimes a dogs ear cartilage breaks. It can happen during play or even if a dog shakes it's head too violently. The implants are used in this instance to help the ear stand. Simple surgical fix. An owner considering this should remember to keep the documentation showing the ear was broken, not soft. If my dog had this happen I would absolutely get an implant. I had a dog who developed a hematoma in his ear. This is a difficult fix because it is very difficult to keep the blood from filling back up between the cartilage & the skin, even when mattress stitched & bandaged tightly. I sure wish I had known about implants back then. Here is a good link: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4252110.html

I looked into it here and the cost for the implant was $850.00, the problem to worry about is the infection due to the body rejecting it, other than that supposebly it is an easy procedure.
I am thinking of having my dog get it in August when we are home for a while and no out of town vacation in sight and due to the heat we have no training that month either...
yes, and that is why they have no problem in doing the surgery on him.Had it been a soft ear the surgery is not as easy. And that comes after the implant is in.But Bandit is too handsome to have a damaged ear....
