I bought a pup from a person that said her dog was to be bred and then she was going to have the pups welped and raised by some very experienced dog people, this person became attached to the pups and the child picked a favorite, the dogs never went to the people with experience. Now at six weeks old they have not been held rigoresly(sp) they do not show alot of drive, they are sensitive to human touch, they have not been exposed to swimming or water, they are left to them selvs all day untill an adult gets home, i'm sure that after a long day they are not real interested in spending the rest of the night walking the dogs out side and initializing some prey. If the deal was not kept as described and the pups were not up to where they should be at this time what would you do and think???????? PS THESE ARE WORKING DOGS NOT CUTE LITTLE PLAY MATES.

Lance the pups are six weeks old, for one they cant be walked, swimming is not important at that age to be soo concerned, I really don't understand your frustration.
Is it that they have no drive, if they are sensitive to touch , and they show no interest in the things you want in a pup get your money back.What breed?
You might be able to get drive out of a pup once you obtain it, what at 8 weeks would be your pick up date?
I think overall , if you are not happy the way the breeder handled this , get out of it.SOOO many good and honest breeders out there with good pups etc......don't settle..

I will be more clear, At this age those dogs should be outsidr running around, chasing a rag or something to stimulate their prey drive, while running around they should be stimulated into the water (not forced or thrown) something like following mother. When you touch them they should feel comforable not alleanated(sp) thanks

WEll you're a bit right , you can get the puppies ready for things they will encounter goign to their new homes.We treated our litter of 6 pups as if they were part of the family, they got to run in the house play in the kids bedroom, see the cats, go for small car drives,hang with us while we watched tv..
They came intot he front yard and got to hear all kinds of sounds going around the neighborhood, like cars ,lawnmowers ect..they got to hear it all and saw as much as we could show them.By the time they left they knew how to go up the stairs and down, they knew to go out to potty and knew to go through doggy doors.They received kind touch and positive feedback.They were not fully potty trained but they sure were almost there.We sacrificed our home for them, everyone that has a pup from my litter tell me how courageous their pup is and not afraid of anything.They were fed raw from the time they were weined, and no shots until they went to their home By their new family.
So I can sympathise with you and say if it does not feel right for you Lance ...walk
I think people who breed and do nothing with their litter but wait to collect $$$ are back yard dog breeders

A good solid working litter doesn't need any of that crap. The drive should be there, it doesnt need to be stimulated at 6 weeks old to exist.

If you throw a sock into the puppy pen, or walk thru the puppy pen and nobody is trying to bite you/hold onto your pant legs/fight over the sock then I wouldn't even waste my time. Like I said, it shouldnt need to be stimulated, it should already be there, all you can do with puppies is test what they were born with.

If the breeding was a flop and the puppies don't interest you then walk away.

Why would you consider buying a working dog from someone who is going to send the litter to be raised by someone else?
I do not understand that at all.

If someone told me that, it would be a complete warning bell that these probably are not going to be what I am looking for and the "breeder" probably really doesn't have a clue.

Its a story to tell, basiclly the pro's rented the bitch,after a time the bitch and the pups were supposed to go and it never happened. The breeders aranged the breeding with a grandchild, it was to be a 2-3 breeding, all was well untill lately. It appears the deal went south. The lines are very sought after, maybe not this time????? we'll see

Mike, your use of the word moron is extreme.... For all you know the pro dog people who leased this bitch may be the one that has taught you how to be a better helper at some of the east coast decoy camps. At this point the lines mean nothing, only that the deal has changed and the pups have not been raised as said to be. I think the option to wait another week see how they do at testing and then decide. I would agree with carol that if they are not chasing the hell out of a rag at this point its a big red flag.

Oh I've met my share of "pro" breeders with "great lines" that I wouldn't hesitate to call morons any day of the week But it sounds like a strange mess of a breeding, I would just walk away from the litter if I didn't like what I saw and leave it at that.

Still, what lines are these dogs? Or are the lines top secret?
