First of all I have never done protection sports with my mals, but I'd really love to give it a go. I am very active in most other dog sports, including Obed, agility, tracking, flyball and herding.
I am going to check out a club in my area, that I have heard good things about. Im hoping to get some advice on things I should look for? This club is all breed, but it seems they mostly work german sheps and rotties.
We've discussed this topic in detail in the past here on the forum's.
Take some time and review the "Search" function and take a look at those threads, they'd answer your question in detail.
( That's a nice way of saying that many of us have posted answers to this exact question so often that we wish that folks would take a look at what was previously posted - most questions that a person can ask about training has been answered in good detail somewhere on the forum. The "Search" function is your friend! )
I've found the site search function is usually an exercise in frustration. What should be a simple search generates lengthy lists of irrelevant topics. I'm usually pretty good at finding things on the web too.
What I've found works the best is to use Google.
1) Specify the Leerburg site using site:/www.leerburg.com
2) Add the phrase, keywords and any other qualifiers you normally use on a Google search.
For this topic
site:www.leerburg.com "What should I expect from a club?"

I often have the best results when I use quotes around an exact phrase.
In this case, "ideal club" worked, but that was only because I remembered the phrase from the O.P. -- so yeah, not so helpful for someone searching cold.
Do you know that on Leerburg.com, there is a "search our site" option that eliminates the need for the qualifyer "site:www.leerburg.com" ?
Of course, if it's a thread I know about already, the date range and/or a forum member's name (if I know the name of anyone who was on the thread) help a lot, using the regular forum "search."
Hmmm...we had a *great* discuusion about what to look for in a trainer/club this year.
Maybe we should consider making that a "sticky" to help new members....
