Yep, the Fetz dog and "Spy," Karla vom Leerburg. I've heard lots of stories of Fetz and I'll be talking to Will about this as well, but I'd like to hear thoughts from other people. I don't know much about Spy but I hear that she was at a Bernhard Flinks seminar and also that she worked well at that seminar. I have a possible chance of a pup from that breeding and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. I already know to be well stocked in bandages and painkillers!
I'm especially looking for specific information on the bitch regarding drive, biddability, nerves, how she worked at the seminar, and especially from owners who bought/worked pups from her litters. I'm interested to know what she typically brings to the table in a breeding. The pup would be worked in schutzhund and anything else we may find fun. The breeder actually came to me with the pup and when I asked him for more information on the bitch and the breeding, on top of what he already advised me on he suggested I post here as many of you know these dogs and these lines.
I met Spy in person. She was incredibly focused on her ball, having fun in the field. Friendly, and "smiling", perfectly willing to be around "outsiders". Truth be known, she is the reason I felt more at ease with getting a pup out of this litter with this pup being my first working line GSD.
She does appear to have a level head, what I did see of her was exactly what Jason described. Plus, her being an experienced "mom" whelping and raising the pups, IMO helps balance the scale of the FETZ.
Michele, this would be my first working line pup as well. It's good to know that Spy has calmness and socialbility to add to the genetics! I hear that the half-sister Princess Weasel seems to be sans "off switch," how is your pup in comparison? The one I may be able to get is Ben von Sidener, a littermate to your Cato. I have your same concerns about Ben being too much for me, a first-timer mortal with no experience in working lines, but if Spy can temper some of the Fetz fury, that would be good news.
Jason, thanks for the links! I did read through them. I saw Ed's concern about having Otis repeated so much in the pedigree, I wonder if that would be something to be concerned about?
