This has nothing to do with dog training but you city slickers may get a kick out of it - just got back from 2 weeks on my cousins ranch in South Dakota (took one of my horses and helped them brand about 1000 head of calves.
Here is a short slide show of some of the photos I took
Well Ed, you say it's not about dog training, but a little known fact when working with cattle. They designed a particular dog just to be with the cowboys. In fact they wrote a song about it. Yep, the words go kind of like this; Get along little doggie? Isn't that what Dachshunds are all about; long little doggies.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.

Oh, yeah, that's right....... now all those famous Westerns with John Wayne and his little Dachsund by his side make total sense.....
Love the picture of maggi, where you only see her eye looking at you through her bangs...LOVE that photo...
Your visit looked like a lot of work but a lot of fun.
The West has many famous dogs, like the Irish setters who built the railroad and the spaniels who conquered Mexico. And don't forget the dogs in the cavalry. When the cavalry charged, someone always blew the beagle. As for long little doggies, my western town just had the annual wiener dog races this Saturday.
Cool photos and beautiful ranch, Ed. At least you didn't have to pitch hay to the cattle off the back of a truck at -30 degrees (on this visit anyway). LOL
