have been reading through the forum and this topic is not up there my dog will be 2ys and 3 months next month. I have taken her to the vet for all of her testing to breed and everything has come back good. Now here’s my problem…….Since her first heat I keep track to see when she usually goes into season. Since she was 6 months old it was like clock work.(every 6 months) now she was due to go in heat in April(16th to be exact by my calculation and she still has not.) I took her to the vet and they did more testing and said that everything is fine and she is just late. I know there is no way she could have mated. We live 10 miles from the closest male dog. And from the test nothing came back. Have you ever had a dog miss her season or run this late? Also from all of the test my vet told me she is good to breed once she goes in heat. I have read so many different opinions on whether to wait until she is 3 or not. What is your opinion in your experience? thanks
These were both checked twice now. I am considering going to the vet for a 3rd check this week if she does not go into season. But that is the first thing I thought of as well.
Julie,
I have just had the same experience with my GS.. She has always been like clockwork but this time...when I had planned to breed her...she didn't come in season. She was supposed to have her season in March..but didn't until the 3rd. week in May. I had done all the correct preparations and vet checks, OFA, and vaginal smears and so on...So
Well, the puppy hit the keyboard before I was through! Guess she thought I had said enough !
Anyway, Julie, maybe your girl is doing what mine did and everything will turn out alright. My girl was bred and I am glad to have her back home.
