Not sure if anyone has seen this article in the NY Times, dated 4/28 so am posting the link. I think it's important to read as it shows the lack of conscience and nonchalant attitude of at least one manufacturer in China. Where's there's one, there's more. It's also part of my continued attempt to cast shadows on products imported from China, whether food or otherwise. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/30/business/worldbusiness/30food.html?ex=1181275200&en=d0872799b79c6f30&ei=5070
Here are the two latest links regarding pet food. The first regardig a "Pain Killer in Pet Food" and the other regarding the possibility of salmonella.
It's down right scary what they are finding in pet foods now that they are testing them. I feed raw to the dogs, but I sure worry about my cats who refuse to eat raw and are on Wellness/Merrick.
Geez. This is getting really scary now.
I may end up going back to feeding her the rice and turkey, and looking into raw.
I've never heard of that before reading around here, so it's looking better and better..
I'd read the same article and it really makes you wonder what we're consuming. I also wonder what/where the tainted chicken, pork and fish will end up in. Do you really think all of the tainted foods will end up in our supermarkets or will they end up in pet food (since the FDA said there's no problem with human consumption) and end up being listed in pet food at 'human grade'??
It's getting scarier and scarier. I've kept up with the pet food recall and subsequent news via a newsletter I get from a holistic vet up in Canada.
The thing that bothers me most is the callous attitude of some of the companies involved. I have no faith in the FDA, especially after having read Kevin Trudeau's book. If anyone thinks the FDA looks out for consumers, I have some lovely land on the UT salt flats I'll sell them.
Mike, your post is not at all a hijack - it IS the issue, since the food stuff imported from a communist country (!!) makes its way into our consumption, whether it be us or our dogs.
Incredulous - there should be public outrage at these printed and documented revelations. But there's none, at least not from those who don't own dogs. Even some who do have dogs just don't get it. It's that monster attitude of not caring raising its ugly head over and over, issue after issue. That will make us weak as a nation. THAT is scary as hell to me.
