I was just reading the old posts, and one was about stand-by time on particular collars...
What I was wondering was: Do you keep te collar on the dog all day when you first start E-collar training?? I have still been doing the collar on and off, praise, food thing a few times a day still?? I don't keep it on her all day?
yesterday I kept it on her for about six hours while at a family 4th party. I used the kids, pool, people, other dogs as a distraction for her. I'm still amazed at how quickly this works??
Should I just keep it on now and just act as if it is a normal part of our day when we wake up and play, train, walk...etc??
I started using the collar before i got the video. Now the only thing i did differently then what the video said was i dident put it on him 2-5 times a day. can you go with out that BUT i think the problem you will have is the dog will understand you can only shock him when its on. so if you try and do off leash and its not on him, he is going to know. i would sudjest going back and fourth when you have to give him a correction. prong-e-prong-e-e-prong, what ever you feel like doing but have both collars on when you are doing that.
Keep in mind my expertise with the e-collar is only a month old so *shrug* i am sure someone else will be able to give you some guidance.

Bella is very "Long-Line Savvy" She obeys almost immediately with the long line on?? Only after a few days with the e-collar and very few NICKS and she is super fast on the recall.
I think it also mader her more responsive to other commands as well, without specifically using the ecollar to train them?
I use my e-collar for obedience and aggression. Your supposed to put the collar on several times a day as it somewhat confuses the dog as to when it will be used thus teaching him to obey all of the time to avoid the stim.
In answer to your question, I have left the e-collar on for up to a full day on various occassions, especially when my dog is being aggressive and stubborn. This tends to cause sores at the contact points on his neck. I've read somewhere, don't remember, you should only leave the collar on for 2 hours or less. I know some people leave the collar on longer but my experience has been if you leave the collar on to long, sores can develope and you'll have to wait until they heal completely to use the collar again without aggrevating the scab. I think trying to keep a dog from getting collar wise is somewhat difficult because you have to remember religiously to let him wear it several times when not using it and I am to busy to do this effectively.

Eric is 100% correct. If the collar is worn for more than two hours, it should be repositioned to avoid causing any irritation.
IMO, I prefer to do as Mike and Eric suggested about taking the e-collar on and off several times daily. The best way to go. Same goes with no bark collars if they are being used.
What James says, is exactly what I do as well. I know it can be a pain to remember, but it literally takes 5 seconds to put on/take off the e-collar. Once it's habit, you're good to go! I will sometimes go a couple days without putting the collar on her, but it's no big deal. I get the same responses from her now, e-collar or no e-collar.
To add, by repositioning the collar, you can even turn it around so it's on the back of the neck. Don't know how long it will stay there, but Ed says when teaching the down or down in motion, you can place the collar there.

I've had it on her since eight or so this morning, just checked for irritatin and there is none. Only had to "nick" hr once today.
I have been reading the old posts and it seems to me that some people that posted were doing protection, Police training with their dogs and leave the e-collar on all the time??
