We have been looking at these dogs for quite some time and finally decided to get one. She's awesome. 5 months old and 55lbs already. She was started on raw when she got here and has been doing great, and only had 1 set of vaccinations at the breeder.
She gets along great with the kids and we've of course started ground work on her.
She is just learning how to sit and her attention is easily taken away at this point.
Here is a link to some pictures of her (and a few of Remi) from this morning.

Congratulations Jennifer!!
She looks like a little tank
You should have very well muscled arms by the time you're done raising her

LOL isn't that the truth. She is a little tank as you put it. I need to get a picture of her and Remi next to each other so you can see the difference. Remi is 75lbs. We started doing collar conditioning today - so even though she is wearing the pinch/prong I've not yet used it on her.
She's definately smart though, which I love. And has very little prey drive, which I don't love so much so we're bringing that out of her slowly (so training is easier). She's pretty food motivated right now, which is good. Made learning sit pretty easy.
She just LOVES the kids though and will let them do just about anything to her. I'm VERY happy with her so far.

We brought her to the Hollister Rally this afternoon, and she did amazing. It was her first time in a large crowd and I was very proud of how she acted.
It's amazing how many people thought she was a boxer.
Of course, people wanted to pet her but the "she's still in training" works REALLY well.

Hi Jennifer,
Welcome to the boerboel world! I have a male BB who just turned 1 year this month. We just adore him. He's great with our kids, cats other dogs and chickens. Super smart, sometimes a little too much so at times. He's just now starting to show a little natural protective nature. Up until a few weeks ago, he thought anyone and everyone was his best friend.
If I may ask, what breeder did you get her from, and who are her parents?
Here is a pic of Truman and my 2 year old son.
Congratulations!
Tracy

Tracy - She comes from Lions Head Kennels her parents are Nthombe and Shakire. Both of them are from the Grasland kennels. Brent and Dana are fairly active in the SABT, and we are VERY happy with the temperment of Sandy.
We have not seen any signs of problems from her. She is definately dominant, but not aggressive. Her dominance is clearly kept in check through groundwork and she has not challenged anyone or anything.
Today at the Rally she saw strange dogs, people, bands, and loud motorcycles and took it all in stride.

SHe sounds (and looks) wonderful. Best of luck to you! Are you planning on working her? If so, there are some videos on working boerboels on You Tube. If you do a search for "Kala boerboel" or Batu boerboel" you'll find some cool videos.

Tracy - depends on what you mean by working her. I do not plan on taking this dog and working her in a sport like ScH or turning her into a PPD. I'm not sure that these dogs would normally excel at something like that anyway. (There are exceptions to every rule, and some of the BB breeders in America are trying to turn the BB into a PPD which may be a mistake IMO).
Most of the research that I have done would say otherwise. I know that there were some old threads where Will Rambeau had some experience with the Boerboels - and it wasn't exactly positive. So, if I'm wrong on the ScH compatibility I'd like for him to weigh in. (Or anyone else who has experience with BB's).
But I do plan on doing obedience with her and her being a typical ranch dog like Remi. Depending on how she scores, and whether or not her temperment is right, and if she exhibits the traits of a typical Boerboel I may breed her but I'm not even going to think about that for a few years.

Jennifer, some fellow has posted vids that were kind of a "pre-SchH" BB in training. They weren't great, but the dog could possibilty title with a whole lot of work. So there are folks attempting to work them.....
As a PPD, I couldn't see this breed working out. It'd be an ok backyard "bark and warn" dog, but they have so many other downsides that someone would have to be crazy to rely on one for real protection.
( it's kinda like counting on an old stage 1800's coach type shotgun to protect your home. Would that work? yeah....kinda....but their are *so* many better choices today that you'd have to be a kook to count on it for real protection. This is just an illustration, reminds of me of comparing a good GSD or Mal vs. a BB.... )
Yes, all the ones that I've tested had stinky working ability, but yours might be the exception to the rule, ya never know!
Good luck no matter what route you take!
