Why is iot most Dog owners let there Dogs live inside there House and for a good time of the day confined to a Crate, When surely it would be more healthy for the Dog to live in a Kennel and Run outside in the Garden, This does not mean to say a dog cannot come inside the house for a treat, say twice a Day.

I am not a pet owner so i cant say one way or another but i do believe that it has to do with safety issues as far as your dog getting stolen (check out the topic "Dog Law" it happens more then you would think. And i would also guess most people don't have the area in the back yard to build a run. I am sure there are many many more reasons but those are the top two that pop in to my head.

MY reasons for keeping my dogs indoors is:
I live in Central Florida and the weather is very hot and humid, too hot for dogs to live outdoors.
Why live outside when they can live in the air conditioned house?
Fleas, knats, mosquitos and snakes can be a problem.
Severe weather can also be a problem. We are the lightning capital of the world.
Keeping water cool all day for the dogs would be a problem.
Because of on-going home envasions, I feel that an intruder is less likely to break into my house if they hear four dogs barking.
Here in Florida, there is a law that dogs can't be left chained outdoors during certain hours of the day. Personally, I would never keep a dog chained no matter where I lived.

Yes, Of course it makes a huge difference as to where you Live and the conditions, My house does not have air conditioning even for me, When i first moved over to Belgium, It was a 10 hour Car Ride for Dog Charlie, Not without many stops, He of course could not be put outside in his Own Kennel and Run bought over from England right away in a strange place, He lived indoors with us for 2 weeks, His coat went from a High Gloss to a dead Matt finish, With Dandduff showing, I said he had to go back outside and he was fine with it, a week later he had very near regained his Beautiful Coat Condition of a Border Collie,
Fred the GSD Pup has lived next to Charlie from picking him up at 8 weeks old from his Breeder now nearly 8 months old He has a Really beautiful Coat. In fact i took him to the Dog Training Class last night. One very experinced Owner there did comment on his Condition saying how well the Pup looked
That is what prompted me to write about this on the forum. I put it down to living outdoors, He comes in the house twice a Day every day, He looks forewards to doing so, but after 15 minutes he is ready to have a play in the garden then go in his kennel for the night and you will never here a sound from him all night unless he is distrubed The same applies to the Old Dog Charlie
I appreciate it is not wanted or not possible by a lot of People but 80% of Dogs live outside in a kennel and run in England and Belgium.
I have never Chained a Dog up in my life and this is the third dog only in 30 years, When i was a boy we had two they lived in a kennel as well Not room for the Dogs in the House with Mum and Dad and nine Kids

Not much more to be said as already Quoted, except that The dogs ancesters did not sleep or live in a house, You feed the dogs as near as possible to there Ancesters i.e Raw, but not there living conditions that it seems must be the human way,
I should have put this post it in a different way, i should have said if you lived in a climate which is not so hot and humid, plus not the amount of Mosquitos etc, would you prefer the Dog to live outside. I can guess what the answer would be

I agree that there are exceptions to this. Not every state is like living in Hell like being in Florida in the middle of Summer which seems to be year round!!
Maybe further North or North West would be ideal for a dog to live outside.

Steve, you're right about most people feeding the dogs as near to their ancestors as possible. That is the reason those animals thrive in the wild. On the other hand, living conditions, i.e: hunting, scarce food, territorial wars, harsh weather, competitors, etc, are the reason they DIE in the wild.

If all things were equal, I would still keep my dogs in the house with me. One of the reason I love dogs, and GSDs specifically, is because of the intense bond that they can form with their handlers. I'd rather have him snoozing at my feet while I type this than hanging out in the kennel.
And while I'm sure that my dogs would be thrilled if I suddenly decided to live in the backyard, they will always choose to be with me over being alone outside...it's natural for a dog to want to be with the "pack."
Not everyone has circumstances that allow for their dogs being with them all the time, or even living in the house so I'm not bashing anyone who does things differently. But I personally wouldn't be happy with my dogs living outside.
And incidentally, even in the wild, canines often sleep in dens which is a form of being "indoors" at night.

Amber
Our Charlie is almost human in the way he is So was the Past Tiny who died at over 16 years old, Charlie will not stay indoors if he is in more than 15 minutes he goes to the back door to be let out, Fred is also ready to go outside after a short vist
As we are in the Garden very nearly all Day well now its Summer we are outside at 5.oclock in the Mornings, Its now 7.55 in the evening, and i have just finished seeing to the birds and Dogs i have only been indoors for about an hour today so 14 hours outside where the dogs can see me and they have had two good walks each today as well as a couple of sessions in the Garden, Plus Fred has two sessions a week at the Dog Training School Even in the dead of Winter we are outside by 6.oclock in the mornimgs the lights are turned on in the lofts and work starts weather is never a consideration nothing stops the days work even in the winter we are outside for around 10 to 11 hours This is the way we live Pigeons and the Dogs, there needs are put before our own always has been If i thought i could make them healthier and Happier by letting them live in doors then i would do so but i know in our case we are doing the right thing they look good and they act happy and content. I must say that both Kennels are Double Skin with a filling inbetween and each has a tunnel on the entrance, removable which stops wind and rain blowing inside,
