I'm sure they'll deny ownership
How could they deny ownership when the dog was INSIDE their house when it attacked?? And the one in their own backyard??? What's wrong with people. The only thing BSL had to do with this is that there will be criminal charges for the people who had pits on their property - it OBVIOUSLY didn't stop this attack from happening, and at the core of the insident - this dog was SERIOUSLY unstable, poorly trained (if at all) and clearly not restrained from goin off it's nut (which most likely could have been predicted if it were handled by ANYONE with a BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD.)
Sad, sad story indeed, for so many reasons.

I completely agree!! But this sentence worries me:"The city of Aurora has a pit bull ban because of cases like this one. Detective Robert Friel, spokesman for the Aurora Police Department said, "At this point it's a bit early to determine if the dog is registered at any residence in Aurora. I can tell you that the dog is not registered to be at this home."
this dog was SERIOUSLY unstable, poorly trained (if at all) and clearly not restrained from goin off it's nut (which most likely could have been predicted if it were handled by ANYONE with a BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD.)
That's right! From the clip, the dog doesn't even have a collar on I was hoping to get a PB one day, but the way it's looking, it may become a STATEWIDE ban soon I just hope they don't start trying to ban ALL Bully breeds.

Oooh, tore to the bone. Oh Gosh that would hurt.
I've only handled one pitbull in my life and hes one of the most energetic, but nice, dogs I've ever met (My cousin is his handler). Hes trained fairly well, not at a professional level though.
The second pitbull looked like a puppy, I wonder what they will do with him.
Alex, I would hurry and get one! ^_^

I know that I don't have to say this but: Those people are freaking idiots! I can't imagine a pit bull bite happening a year previous to this, and then this...a year later...idiots.
Why do pitbulls always seem to end up with bad owners?

Some people choose breeds to make them look tough.
Those would be bad owners.

They don't ALL end up with bad owners (and I can't speak for the owners of this particular dog, as it appeared to be part of a family residence...) but certain people will always be attracted to the machismo of tough looking animals, as a reflection of their own attitude - people who own dogs for this reason usually have no idea how to handle them, and no real respect for the potential dangers that they pose. They're all just accidents waiting to happen...

I'm really starting to wonder though......... there seems to be an abundance of pits or pit type dogs doing all the biting, maybe there is something to the banning of pits. Now i don't want to rattle the pit people but jeeez, it's really getting crazy. I'm definitely blaming the owners of the dog but there is some kind of societal problem with the breed, i'm just not sure what it is. Sooner or later you have to look at the collective information and say hmmmmmm.......,

Well I'd have to say, it's 100% the owners. Even if some owners are responsible, out of avg litter of 7 pups, I highly doubt there will be 7 responsible owners. There is bound to be at least 1 dip$hit wanting a PB for macho ego. Sadly, the PB has attracted the wrong crowd because of it's looks, gamey temperament and willingness to please it's owner. Drug dealers know they can count on those dogs to guard their property. They also know their gameness will keep them fighting to the death and make them $ in the dog fighting world. If these dogs become extinct, they will just move to a Rottie, or Dobe, Am Bulldog, etc. I was lucky enough to have grown up with them. My uncle had 2, and I never knew a PB to be aggressive of any kind, until I was old enough to watch the news. Those 2 PB's were excellent dogs! and why I love that breed.
Nathan, I can't get a PB because they are banned in Denver. That's a reason I know the people from the story are bad owners, they had 2 and they are banned in Aurora too! When the PB ban started in 5/2005, animal control & others were actually going into peoples houses and ripping these dogs from their owners. It was terrible. I have a few friends who are good owners and their dog was taken from them and euthanized. Just like that. It's like we were in another country.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Its too bad this breeds reputation was ruined, pitbulls seem like wonderful dogs from what I can tell (Not from the news). Thats horrorible what Animal Control did.
I haven't really heard of any bad pitbull attacks here but then again, I don't really pay attention to the news. Hopefully something will change, allowing owners/handlers like yourself to get a pitbull, or any kind of 'banned' dog. Hope something works out for you, Alex.
