My 12 week gsd is always on a leash. I usually have him on a 15ft cotton leash. He often gets into a frenzy in the front yard and begins to run like crazy. If I try to pet him when he is in this frenzy he has bitten me and one time he bit me pretty good to where blood was drawn. He does not do it very often, maybe he gets in these frenzies once per day or every other day. The times that he has bitten me have been like a bite and run. He used to bite pretty hard when I would pet him also but that has pretty much stopped. I grabbed him very firmly once, by the collar and by his flank. I was scolding him for nipping at my feet and toes. He bit me really good then also. I have noticed that this type of biting has diminshed but it happens now only when he is in frenzy mode on the leash. I was just figuring that I had stopped running him in circles (he loved to chase the broom) and now had extra energy. I stopped because I thought it may be to hard on his limbs right now. He does not care for the everlasting balls but loves wooden sticks and he actually eats swallows the pieces he breaks off. Should I also try and stop this?

Hi David,
Eating and/or playing with sticks is not a good thing to encourage. Your pup runs a real risk of of getting a piece stuck or having a sharp piece perforate his gut.
Kongs, orbees, and tugs are better choices. Check out the toys on this site...they are all really good and they hold up very well.
My pup ZOOMS around outside when he is trying to get his bowels moving ... In fact, I started using the command RUN when he would do this, and now he will RUN/ZOOM on command. This is useful if I'm trying to get him to HURRY UP his bowels.
If we're inside and he has to poop, he can get really Mouthy/Agressive.
For our pup this tends to be more of an Evening Occurence.
My Dutchie got into these frenzy's about 4 times a day for 8 months. Shes fine now.... at 3 months old in the bedroom at night she'd be chewing on something, look up, then take off, do laps around the room growling and barking at nothing and then slam into another toy.
Now she's 18 months old and has been in a crate for 9 days due to stitches, the only time she has been out of the crate is potty breaks and food. She gets so wound up that she's acting like a crazy puppy again. Some dogs are just like that, I like that trait, some people find it annoying
Come to think of it he still bites me when he is playing and I try to pet him. I can only leave him in a little area in my bedroom for around an hour or so before he begins to act up. Today was the second time I let him loose in my living room (without the child gate enclosing him) and he only lasted about ten minutes before he began chewing everything in site.
