Don't know about the yeast, but your Grandpuppy appears to *really* like the beer, (one tipped once and he was ON it!!!) are you trying to tell me it really is a genetic thing, or am I here to tell you to look out if Fetz gets started???
hahahaha!!! (Drat, where's the animated ROFL smiley when ya need one!)
I almost choked on my coffee there, Will! And I still can't type properly for laughing!
Whew, OK... Ahem, young man, are you fixing to make your dog an alcoholic??? My dog LOVED Vegemite, which is made from brewer's yeast, but I can't see the dregs as being good for Fetz, as it probably still has alcohol in it.
God, I'm still wiping tears of laughter away, imagining your dog with a goofy smile on his face & a stein in his paw!
LOL!!! A question I can finally answer!! As a descendant of a long line of "poitin" makers from the hills of Connamara, Ireland....the answer is "YES".
Poitin is created using malt yeast which turns the sugar from potatoes to alchol.
The farmers would feed the spent yeast to cattle, horses and dogs for its health benefits. How much and how often I am not sure about, but I can find out from my father.
Now if this isn't enough evidence for you, I've included a link with some actual science behind it...scroll down to the history section. Goodluck with "hiccup" your brew and your brood.
Last fall we hosted Wilfred Scheld at our conformation show. His uncle had the Busecker Schloss (sp?) kennel and also owned a bar. Apparently, Greif (Natan's grand-sire) spent a lot of time in the bar and was known to knock back a few every now and then ... So, I guess the Fetz would do ok on a good dark bock brew. Hope he's not a mean drunk. ;D
Have fun with your brewing adventure. I got the hometown paper (Pawnee City, NE) a few weeks ago. The folks who started a winery on the place next to the one I grew up on have started a new venture. They are now brewing Git-r-done beer. It features the smiling contenance of native son Danny Whitney, aka Larry the Cable Guy. By all accounts, it's a pretty decent beer. My cousin works there as a the head wine maker. He got his start brewing beer and making wine of about any thing on the farm. Started with cherry wine and went from there.
Gave Nikki her first shot at the helper last week. Mark was smiling when he got done working her. Looks like a good sign. At 11 months, she is maturing into a very nice looking female. I'm hoping to keep her under 60cm. We did a quick measurement Thursday and she came in a bit over 59. Weight seems to have settled at 56# for the past month or so. I'm guessing she's largely stopped growing.
