I was wondering if everyone that has treated or tried to treat aggression with an e-collar could post their personal stories here.
I am interested in seeing how often this method works. Perhaps, by people detailing their different experiences we can deduct why those that weren't successful encountered issues. I realize that there are a number of posts on here but I was wondering if we could get a summary in one thread.
I would say I have succeeded so far. The only problem is standing to close to a handler aggressive dog when you stim for aggression. Bruno snapped the jewls one day before church. I chaulked that up to operator stupidity.
For the most part Bruno behaves quite well when he's packin the juice. I think, like anything, an exercised dog is a calmer dog. You can also use the pager, if equipped, as a warning of what's next.
"NO" goes allot further when electric. The only thing I REALLY don't like about e-collars is the hazards to leaving them on to long. I'm trying not to shave a ring around his neck to keep it on him so he doesn't wear it allot. His fur is to thick so I can only put the collar where I shaved his neck.
I think success with aggression depends morso on the operator. Distance is your friend, muzzle may be neccessary, proper stim level and fair application is a must.
I found it very helpful for my dog aggressive dog. The trick was to first train basic obedience with the stim, so she understood the concept, to obey instantly. Then I had to make sure I kept my eyes open and distracted her with a series of commands before a dog came too close. Once she was fired up, it was very dicey to control her with the stim, and I preferred the dominant dog collar, which she always also wore while we were training.
Did you get a night day difference training with the dominant dog collar? Were many repetitions necessary? I am assuming that you did the exercise as outlined in Ed's video on dominant dogs.
