What do you guy's do with a marrow bone if the dog doesnt clean it completely in a certain amount of time? Stick it back in the fridge or toss it out? Or do you just leave it for later with meat and marrow still on it? I can find the answers to all my other raw questions, but not this one.
Hi Steve, those bones turn to cement quickly once they've been cleaned of all or most of the fat and exposed to the air - I chuck everything Oscar doesn't finish once he's left it overnight... no reason to take a chance on a cracked tooth (giving bones is a risk as is)!! That's just me though...
They get too hard to leave lying around; I throw away any marrow or knucklebones after a few hours if they haven't been consumed. I don't actually give too many marrow bones...but I'd treat them the same as knucklebones, as the tendency to harden is probably the same, or worse.
They're great-not as rich, and lots of cartilage, which comes off in harmless, waxy little pieces when it breaks. Never had more than a quarter-sized piece chip off, and that's easily chewable w/out worrying about broken teeth. Depending on the packaging, it may say "soup bones". They're the big roundish ones.
Thanks, LOL. So far it's gone very smooth. Nothing even close to a problem. Right now his morning meal is raw and his evening meal is Evo. The only real reason I havent completely switched is a vacation trip next week and I wanted to still feed him kibble then.
