I'm thinking about purchasing a puppy from a newer kennel. This is only their second litter, and while we've talked very seriously about purchasing a pup, the kennel owner has made no mention of a sales contract.
Now for the twist; the kennel owner is ALSO the training director of the schutzhund club we go to, and are thinking of joining. We'll be in close contact with them every week, so I'm wondering if that may be the reason it's not been talked about.
Is this something I should mention/ask for? Opinions welcome, please. PM if you must, I just cleared my mailbox.
Jim,
One thing to think about - your relationship with your SchH club training director is important, Lord knows that there are few enough clubs to go to.
So if you end up having a problem with a dog that you've gotten from this person, there's the possibility that your training could end up being adversely affected.
Maybe this wouldn't cause a problem, but I'd think long and hard about it.
On the other hand, the training director has a lot of people watching if his pup turns out to be a loser. So it could be a problem, or it could be a benefit.

Excuse me for being somewhat naive, but what do some of you mean when you say a contract for working ability etc. How can anyone breeding and selling a dog gurantee how a Pup will turn out as a working Dog. Surely it is up to the new owner to bring that out in the Dog, Somethings may be inherited as they are in all living things but i fail to see how any guarantee can be made on a pups ability to be a great dog on the working field, that surely is asking too much of a breeder, i may have read the post wrong but thats how i read it
