For those of you who have been giving me advice on the Bart saga of housebreaking - I thought I'd clue y'all in on a recent breakthrough. Bart is now 16 weeks old (give or take a few days) and seems to be able to make it at least half the day without us! I have come home from work at lunch this week to find a dry puppy, and today I came home after work (after a lunch visit) to a dry puppy!!!! That's over six hours at a time. Plus he's making it all night now... I'm not counting my chickens yet, it might be a fluke, but I think we may be finally turning a corner. Funny, I set up the kennel/run in the backyard and the next day Bart starts 'holding it.' I also noticed a few other changes in Bart the last couple of days, coinciding with the increased hold time. He's started lifting his leg a little - not every time, but occaisionally. Plus, he's finally losing teeth...his first incisors were gone a few days ago. It's funny, I can tell he's been holding it when I let him out, because he pauses a second or two after he strikes his 'pee pose' before the urine starts coming out...like he has been holding it so hard he's got to tell himself to pee.
That is great news! I remember how thrilled I was when the "every two hour" trips outside in the middle of the night were over. That was last winter and I am so looking forward to a good night's sleep this coming winter!
