I know all Dogs Change there coat, but is it normal for a G.S to cast out small tufts of hair. Over here we call it Moulting. But Charlie the Collie + has a completly different Coat to Pup Fred
Its Late Summer over here and the Moult is going on fast but it is the small tufts i see which concerns me, His Coat is fine other than this, Any thoughts on it would be helpful
No, it's more normal for them to cast off large tufts of hair. Yes, in my (3 dog) experience it's perfectly normal. GSDs normally "blow" their coat twice a year, I believe. Tufts appear in seemingly endless supply, like rabbits out of a hat. Goes on for a couple of weeks. It's why you'll get plenty of hits if you search this site for "vacuum cleaner".
Cheers!
p.s. Why do you think they're called German Shedder Dogs?
My GSD dog sheds so much I could 'build' a new dog with the hair!!!!
All of my dogs are shedding now and it's really a mess.
I believe when GSDs shed, it's called, "blowing the coat". Brushing helps but until the shedding 'season' is over, (and when is THAT????), you just have to deal with the hair.
