I am not sure how I can answer your question. I haven't met a presa, but I have seen cane corso. Many people think both breeds look similar. They aren't the same and bred for different reasons. I have heard a few good things about Red Star kennnel.

If you are interested in presas contact Irina or Mark at Red Star Kennels. I train my dogs with them. Very knowledgeable and I have seen their dogs work. Awesome indeed. May or may not be everybody's cup of tea but these dogs are NICE. I believe all their lines come from Canary Islands.

Check them out.
Good luck.

Watched some of the videos. Dogs were very slow compared to Gsd or Mals but some of the dogs looked good and some serious. I would not want to be on the wrong side of one of them giants.

I had a post on Presas about six months ago, try the search feature.
I love these dogs but decided they are not the dogs for me. These are SERIOUS dogs for SERIOUS people -- I don't know you, I'm not trying to suggest you aren't a 'serious dog person' but they are essentially a pit bull on roids. You MUST be the alpha and you MUST be on top of everything if you own one of these dogs.
Also keep in mind things like homeowner's insurance/renting with one of these dogs -- good luck and God BLESS! It seems every year another person is mauled by one of these dogs that ended up in the wrong hands. It's a shame. They are getting some serious negative press. (You mention 'Presa Canario' to my mother and she pretty much screams 'Diane Whipple!' and runs from the room.)
As far as the mastiff-type working dogs go, I would pick a Presa over anything else. However, I don't think you can surpass a GSD, Mal, Dobe, or even an ACD with a Presa.
Oh, and DogWorld magazine did a good 2-page article on them a couple of months ago. I looked through my magazine stack and can't find it, but it was no more than 6 months ago. The article was good for just basic info on the breed, but a TON of breeders advertised in the back -- some good, some bad. It would give you a lot of options and kennels to look into. I would definately double-check here for anyone's experience with a kennel BEFORE making a decision like this, though. (I do second Red Star, they seem to have their stuff together.)

Given a choice, I'd take a Cane Corso over a Presa, it's easier to find a good working CC then a Presa.
I've found the Presa's to be nervy and while they're an effective visual deterrent, they're not really a protection breed in my experience ( every one that I've seen or trained would be a wash-out in any type of serious sport or pp training, period. )

I agree with Will here. I've trained a handful of Cane's and only seen a handful of Presa's work but I'm more inclined to lean towards the Cane. They seem to be more athletic.

Obviously not as quick as shepards and mals mentally but very quick for a mastiff. And Im now adding an official point from will in the Corso catagory. lol

My two cents, presas are not essentially pit bulls on roids. They are essentiaally a different breed. This would be like saying Mals are a smaller version of Gsd's. Or canes a version between pits and presas.

Totally agree w/Enrique re: Katherine's comment. Pit Bulls have absolutely nothing to do w/Presas, CCs, or any other mastiff-types. To say that one is "essentially a Pit Bull on roids" is completley false, and dangerously inaccurate. I honestly think they have a higher liklihood of human or handler aggression, more similar to a very hard workingline GSD or Mal...certainly not a Pit. They can be dominant, and they're extraordinarily strong, so of course a certain degree of common sense is in order.
